Vacume pipe loose??

Hi all, last night whilst looking to see how to change my air filter I found a small pipe that was disconnected.

Its some sort of vacume pipe type material/size, with a steel type mesh protection covering. It was routed away from the box and down between engine components till it went out of sight.

On inspection it should be connected to the air filter box below the big hose coupling towards the rear end of the box. It has been disconnected for some time for sure. The car was running fine anyway so it cannot be too important.

I have't a picture but just wondered if anyone recognises which hose it is and could tell me what it does.

Hose

I see, so it looks to be part of the emmissions sustem then. I couldnt see any oil or other staining on the end of the tube, And I cannot see that it draws much of a vacume in the airbox so my guess would be that it picks up clean air from the airbox and takes it somewhere.

That would explain why it hasnt seemed to have any impact for not being connected.

Thanks for the photos. Very helpful.

I have just noticed a hole in this pipe where it has chaffed on the corner of the plastic engine cover. I have taped it up temporarily and put a cable tie on to keep it away from the engine cover. I have no reason to think it was causing a problem and not sure how long it has been like that.
