SWMBO needed to head down to Vegas to help with the Bernie Sanders election campaign, so the Road Trip was on!
We had a couple of my daughters friends over from the UK so rented an apartment through Airbnb - first time we had done it but check out the view!
But - 5 minutes after we arrived a guy was shot in front of the Bellagio, so part of the strip was closed. There was a guy running in the road (that we had just been on - we heard the gunshots) waving a gun around. The cops tried to shoot him but shot a tourist instead Go 'Murica!
So while T'missus was busy and the kids were off spending my money I want for a tootle into the desert.
Fancy a race?
Driving back past Nellis there was fair bit going on as a Red Flag is on now. Left my zoom lens in the hotel but you get the idea.

And watched a bit of the drifing at the speedway as I was there
Checked out the car collection at the Linq - well worth a visit!
Just before we left for home went to Red Rocks conservation area - not far from downtown Vegas. Fantastic.
Back home safe and sound now to a crapload of snow

Two spots I went to - best one was west side of the Motor Speedway looking East over the runways - apparently stay on the speedway side of the Road or security will be along. Being able to stand on the tailgate helped
Other spot was on East Cheyenne Ave - to the east of North Nellis Boulevard. Pack a long lens...

What road / freeway would I need to get on and assume I could do Nellis and Death Valley in the same day (not too long at Nellis) - look like in same direction on the crappy map I've got?

Yes, both do-able in a day if you don't hang about at Nellis for too long. I'm in a meeting right now but let me grab a couple of maps later to show you what i mean.
