When I took a D5 in for this earlier in the year, they did a free health check and lo and behold the discs were ridged on the inside edge, so they quoted a small mortgage for that. Anyway, it wasn’t anything more than the usual wear and tear and they did some back peddling when questioned.
The security update imho is just a Trojan horse to get you in the door. Dont suppose theres actually any modifications bar a new battery or a bit of foil stuck inside the key case somewhere.
no its genuine software update to prevent frequency jacking and also to block the remote access hacks used to mimic key fob signals
think its this video on You Tube where the guy tests the update on his Disco Sport and proves it works, although ISTR they do manage to break into the car via other methods but you will never fully stop a determined scumbag.

if its not that video its one of his other car theft ones that shows it. The guy can come across as a bit of an idiot sometimes but he is highlighting and fighting a few other good motoring causes such as insurance costs2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

My 2022 Defender has just had a security update. Not sure what they did but apparently it limits the number of keys to two. I presume that it means that if the thieveing scum mimic a signal from a key the car will think it's a third key.
So far, it appears that new Defender thefts are reasonably rare. 🤞

Great to see the security updates being done , see they go back to 2016
Hopefully over time the insurance companies will start to bring premiums down

Not around here regrettably. Quite a few stolen from the East Sheen, Richmond, Putney and Wimbledon areas.
Friend had her new Defender taken, £15,000 to repair, four months to wait and then the insurers declined to renew.

If i'd spanked north of 80K on a motor then i'd fit one of these:

Adrenalin 4x4 pedal lock (Defender).
I'm pretty sure my pedal lock has saved my D4 from disappearing from my drive, and Tescos!
At the end of the day if those thieving rapscallions managed to get in the door they'd wake the neighbourhood trying to grind-off that bad-boy, as well as setting fire to the car in the process... Discovery 4 HSE late 2015 Euro6

Got my letter regarding security update and faraday pouch.
Just to make things clear for others:
1. My car is a June 2015 car, but is a 2016 model year. which is referenced in the letter. 2016 and 2017 model year is stated in the letter.
2. It states a security software update to provide extra protection will be available later this year and they will let me know when it is available for my car so that I can book it in for the update.
3. A link is provided in which you enter your VIN and the letter ID to obtain free sleeping batteries (on a first come , first serve basis). These put the key into sleep mode after 3 minutes. These will not be available for around 6 months.
Rang my dealership just before I got the letter to enquire what the situation was regarding my car. They didn’t seem to know anything about the email from the CEO and stated nothing available/outstanding.
At the end of the day if those thieving rapscallions managed to get in the door they'd wake the neighbourhood trying to grind-off that bad-boy, as well as setting fire to the car in the process...
I bought the pedal lock after you first posted the picture of yours. Very reassuring bit of kit.

Received letter today (2016MY Graphite Purchased late 2016).
Yes, Landrover are rolling this campaign back to 2016 vehicles.
media.landrover.com/en-gb/news/2024/06/jlr-accelerates-roll-out-security-updates-uk-600
(Admins, how do I quote a page link please ??)
If that link doesn't work, google "media.landrover.com/en-gb" and choose "News" then scroll to 05 Jun 2024.
Doesn't say if the update is just a software update, or a hardware update as is hinted at in the bulletin, updating to 2018 UWB technology, we will have to wait and see.
Ideal would be hardware updated to new spec. ??
Don't understand that a Software update will update the Hardware ?

My letter specifically states " our engineers are working to deploy a software security update....."
So not a hardware change.Gary

I've had my letter today but can't get the link to work to claim some free sleeper batteries.
I'm typing in what's on the letter, secured.bhn-emea.com, but I'm getting a message saying the page doesn't exist.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Thanks Gary_P
I don't appear to be able to get to it using Firefox, but having switched to Chrome it's worked and I've requested them.
Just need to wait 6 months now.
For clarity my D4 was registered in Dec15, but I don't know if that makes it a 16MY or notHeaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
