This seems to be becoming more common in older and higher mileage D3's, and it would appear that some have cured it by performing a double flush of the auto gearbox oil.
It needs a double flush because its impossible to drain the gearbox oil completely - some will remain in the pipes and the torque converter. Also, the filter is not easy to change. The oil is expensive and a fair amount is needed.
It seems to work though

Mine did that at 70mph under slight acceleration.
Dealer never found the cause.
Since my previous car was a mondaymorning P38 Rangie, and I told him that I would not tolerate multiple dealer visits again, he replaced the box with no questions asked and didn´t cost me a penny.

In my opinion it was the torque convertor not locking up completly.
With the knowledge from this forum double flush is the way to go.05 TDV6 HSE AUTO 7seats, tonga green/alpaca, alpine roof, privacy glass, tow kit, wood kit, 20" stormers n summer, 18" in winter, fancy exhausts, rear seat ent., club fooked turbo!
