Hmm I'd say it's rare enough James for it to go that bad without some warning. Usually it's noticeable by the constant Woooshh from the defective fan clutch. Is it possible something got caught up in the fan?
Also does the fan rotate freely or is it fixed solid to the coupling?
It shouldn't take much to sort it, but the rad will be add to that considerably.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

My first D3 had chewed up cooling fan wires so maybe had the same thing happen to it before my ownership.
Think I've still got the replacement fan in the garage somewhere...managed to sort the old one...before I took out two trees with it...and the rest of the front of the car!Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
