Wading depth sensing fault

I have a fault with the wading depth sensing system on my 3 year old D4 which the dealer is having difficulty diagnosing. On dry, level ground it warns that I am above wading depth. Placing my hand over the sensor in the mirror housing stops the alarm sounding and returns the display screen to normal. The dealer (who is 60 miles from me) has had the vehicle twice for 10 days at a time initially diagnosing faulty sensors (which did not fix it), and then diagnosing a faulty control unit (which also has not fixed it). They are unable at this stage to come to any conclusion as to what may be the cause (the fault was reported by me prior to factory warranty end). Apparently Land Rover Australia have little idea what could be wrong also. Has anyone experienced any issues with this system, or could suggest any further diagnostic procedure?

No side steps. All factory standard. I don't use the feature, but it certainly worked when new. I discovered it wasn't working recently. It occurs to me that the blind spot warning indicators in the mirrors haven't been warning me very much in traffic the last few months, and I'm wondering if that's related (I believe it may be the same control unit, but the dealer said they changed that (had to order one ex UK) this time.

Just looked at mine and mine works in the reverse to yours, everything is normal and no warnings but if i put my hand under the sensor it then shows the water depth in blue on the display increasing and decreasing as you move your hand up and down. It almost sound likes your software is working in reverse. When alarming is it showing the blue water line on the display

Yes, that's obviously how it should function. I can't recall the door or mirror wiring being disconnected at any time by the dealer. In fact, the only warranty issue I can recall was a split door rubber. If the wiring had been incorrectly reversed at some point (which i imagine would be difficult because it's probably a moulded, polarised connector) I'm not sure what that would do, because I assume the system averages readings from both mirrors.

Break in the wiring loom from one of the sensors could be a possibility, they may default to alarm rather than not work at all

If you have issues with blind spot as well I would suggest that it is probably related to wirinig harness between door and car body

As Russell said i would agree with wiring break, if you know where the controller is a continuity tester would prove the cables. If the dealer has tried a new controller and sensors I’m surprised they have not looked into the loom being at fault

That does sound very logical. I believe the control unit is under the passenger's front seat. I will contact the service manager on Wednesday (he's away for a couple of days) and suggest they do a continuity test if they haven't already (the car is at the dealership at the moment).
