Hey Yondersafari, good evening.
In spite of my love for my 2005 D3, I am looking at a classic VW type 2 at the weekend that I'm tempted to buy. If so, my HSE will be for sale next week. I'll put up an ad on this forum as expected. A few photos here for you, it is currently a single-bed camper but everything I've done is entirely reversible and I obviously still have the two middle seats that can bolt straight back in place if needed.
Belts (both) done, new Torque Converter, brakes all good including EPB, two new keys, all generally in good working order save for a few age-related niggles.

You'll hate a T2 after a D3. I used to have a split screen and the romanticism was great, the reality was different - poor brakes, poor heating, low power and wayward steering, but each breakdown was an adventure! Start at a T25, synchro if you can, but a T5 as a minimum. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Thanks Moo for the feedback. Useful. The one I'm looking at is a 1980 bay fronted Devon Moonraker. It was renovated about 9 years ago and looks to be in tip-top condition with a strong engine. Set up as a four berth which is perfect for me, wife and two daughters.
My neighbour has a T6 pop top and it is very special, but I've always hunkered for one of these oldies. Given it'll be used only for occasional 1 or 2 night weekends away, I think the romance of pooltling around the countrysdie in it will be great for the kids.
The D3 is a joy to drive, though, and the alternative is a caravan perhaps, but something otherworldly is pulling towards this T2 and I'm struggling to keep away...

We bought a vintage caravan as the alternative. Great fun and we also had a car to use without worrying about the pitch.
