[Wanted] Nice D3 SE/HSE spec ideally |
|
As per title, I'm looking for my first one.....
I'm aware my wallet will take a hammering and have been singing to the poor thing to keep it calm before it starts taking some punishment (that sounds disgusting reading it back....)…
But until I can find my first one, it is safe for now....
Genuinely not fussed on colour - SE/HSE spec should mean leather, which is ideal quite simply because it's easier to keep clean.....
History and bills are key really - low miles would be nice, but history is better, both would be great.
In some ways one that is due, or nearly due, it's belt change would be good, as that way I can get the oil pump done at the same time, which is a key piece of maintenance for me personally.
Budget - Hoping £5k to £7K will get me a nice one - I could stretch that upwards for an absolute 'specimen' if needed and have the funds available, don't need to sell anything first etc. etc.
I'm based in North Hampshire - happy to travel within reason, but obviously things are tricky right now with Covid, so maybe halfway meet-up could be an option also?
Enthusiast owned cars always seem to be better bets than what is available via Autotrader etc. and I'd prefer not to buy from a dealer as I can't imagine any warranty they might give would be worth the paper it's written on when it comes to Disco's, but if anyone can recommend and decent used supplier of these, then I'd be happy for any pointers or recommendations.
Cheers all,
David

Anything after mid March 2006 has the more expensive road tax
£325 pre March 2006, then a jump to over £500 after

Honestly not fussed on the tax bracket. I was originally hoping to find one in the cheaper bracket, but in the big scheme of things, that extra £200 or so per year is negligible and I know I’ll need to be more flexible in order to find the right car, so it’s not an issue at all for the right example. Most will be in the higher bracket anyway I think?
Had thought about stretching to a 4, but I think I’d sooner get a good 3, than an “entry level” 4..
Cheers, David

D4 Engine Qualifying as “better” is debatable both have their weak points..
I do not want to change your subject otherwise, stick with your own plan I like to say, for every choice there are pro’s and con’s, but a decent D3 is a nice and good motor IMHO. Best regards
Harold

Pro's and cons to both.
My budget stretched to a very good 3 or an average 4
I plumped for the best 3 I could find, an HSE with 60 odd thousand on it and a full Land Rover service History
As age doesn't matter massively to me I'm more than happy with the choice!
I paid top money for a Discovery 3 but quite content with that.
Besides, when the apocalypse comes to an end I will thoroughly abuse it in the mud and I'm quite happy do so, might be less so with a 4!

As glorious as an orange V8 would be...I suspect it would be a VERY big stretch for a G4 i.e. multiples of my budget!
cheers,
David
