Warning messages after replacing lower front arms
Hi
I’ve just replaced my lower front arm’s using a kit with new bolts from AF. Everything went well and I didn’t need to cut any bolts
I’ve not had the alignment done yet as that’s booked for Wednesday.
When I took it out to test drive the steering wheel is off about 45 degrees to the left which wasn’t unexpected. But after about 5 minutes of driving I got the following 3 warning messages-
Stability control not available
Emergency brake assist not available
HDC not available system fault
I did jack up the wheels to get the correct hub to wheel arch distance before torquing all the bolts up.
I’ve had a search and seen that the steering angle sensor being out can cause these messages.
So do you think that once the alignment has been done these should clear? Or have I somehow damaged something else while doing the arms?
I don’t think I have done any damage as it all went okay unless I’ve nicked a wire.
With the car running I can raise and lower the car as normal with no errors, it’s only when the car is driving that I get the messages. The messages clear when switching the car off then back on but come back once driving.
I don’t have a code reader so don’t know if any faults are stored.
I’m hoping once the alignment is done this will fix it but if not what should I be looking at?

Sounds like symptoms of the steering angle sensor needing recalibrating with an IID tool or similar

All the messages are because the steering angle is so far out. I'm surprised its that far by just changing the arms tbh.
The garage doing the alignment should fix this, but be sure they know what they are doing before they start! You cant just take the steering wheel off and put it back straight!Richard

The alignment needs to be done that’s all. Once it’s done everything should be good.

Hi all
Thanks for the quick reply and reassurance that it should be okay after the alignment.
The guy I use for alignment is one of the best around here and been using him for nearly 30 years. He’s done all of my LRs over the years and knows what he’s doing.
He’s not one to take the steering wheel off. Last time I went with my dad’s octavia I had to make sure the fuel tank was at a certain level so the back end was at the correct ride height to do the alignment.
I will post back after I’ve had it done and let you know the outcome.

Get it done ASAP, the excess and uneven tyre wear even over a just few miles (less than 200 from memory) was noticeable on my D3. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

It won’t be moving until it goes to get it done on Wednesday. I’m lucky I’ve got a couple of road worthy projects

Just to close this out.
I got the alignment done today which wasn’t far out. It was all in the green before but he still adjusted it and brought it in a bit tighter. He the recalibrated the steering angle sensor to complete the job.
Feeling a lot better than it did.

Out of interest if it wasn't far out why was the steering wheel so off center?
