Warranty Direct - Highly Recommended.

My 146K Discovery which I’ve meticulously maintained for the last 7 years suffered an engine seizure a few weeks back.

On Monday I picked up the car from the excellent Duckworths, and this morning I received a cheque in full for the full cost of the replacement engine from Warranty Direct.

I’ve been a customer for many years now, and most of the repairs on the car I don’t put through as I know they won’t be covered. In this instance a very expensive repair of £10K came at a time when we really needed it!

The customer care, the speed at which the cheques were sent and the attention to detail have been brilliant.

I can’t recommend them highly enough both in their integrity of standing by their policy, but also in the quality of care.

It’s worth saying the also refurbished the gearbox a couple of months ago too!

Very highly recommended.

Never heard of Major Care but have now. Hopefully I can keep extending Extra Care to 160k as that will do me another 3 or 4 years from next summer. Thumbs Up

Look in the Fin & Ins section & you'll see praise to scorn and everything in between. Lots of good experiences here re WD.

Just had a read of a few threads and seriously considering it now, I wouldn't normally bother and don't mind getting a bill of up to a £1000 although it would pee me off its bit the end of the world but what worries me is an engine going pop when it seems like an £8000+ job, i'v just got a quote online with warranty direct and it was £1046 a year for their major care policy, this is the only cover option available, I'm picking my disco up next week, it's a 54reg with 107k miles, it seems the major care package doesn't include suspension faults etc?

I pay £495/year (including no betterment, zero excess, main dealer rates etc), but have been with them for many years so that has to have its perks.

I'm in the same boat as you. I appreciate I may get the occasional big bill (sub £1K) as it's a luxury car and it's now eight years old, and I maintain it meticulously.

I read the policy clearly so I don't bother claiming if the fault's not covered and so there are no surprises.

Unless you're the kind of person who can afford a new FFRR, a £10K spend is a lot of money for anyone, and an engine failure on a low-spec, high mileage early D3 may actually write it off.

As I say, good, honest fair company. No one's perfect, and everyone makes mistakes, I find overwhelmingly positive reviews for Warranty Direct. Those that have been unsatisfied tend to be fall into categories such as 'claiming for wear and tear in first 90 days', or 'claiming for an item not specifically listed'.

Bear in mind my Land Rover Approved Warranty wouldn't cover a wheel bearing at 4 years, on a £1K policy, and it puts Warranty Direct's policy in context!

Agree re Land Rover Approved (unfortunately) Big Cry

Recently had a claim for EPB and parking sensors failing turned down by LR, even though warranty clearly states it covers 'defects to all factory fitted components of the vehicle for mechanical or electrical failure'. It subsequently lists exceptions, over 3 pages, none of which include the electrical items Evil or Very Mad

Needless to say am pursuing this further. At first LR UK have denied all responsibility, trying to fob me off onto warranty 'administrators' (ie insurance company). However, on Page 1 of warranty it states in bold that This Warranty is provided by Land Rover (the Company). Legals have advised that my contract is with Lr so lets see how things progress......

Hi John. Sorry for redirecting an old post but I notice you mentioned WD paid for a recon gearbox. Just wondered what the issue was that required the recon and what steps they went through to authorise. I have judder in my d3 in 3rd and just curious. Thanks John.

Hi - no worries at all. Thanks for the message. Well a few years on and now with another 50k and both engine and gearbox are spot on.

Basically it was fooked. Usual judder, but to be fair you could argue a torque converter is fair wear and tear. It also had a problem with the solenoid block (I think I remember that correctly) that basically mean the revs would drop to zero as soon as you took your foot off the gas. car was whisked away on a trailer to A1 transmissions who swapped everything out for a refurbished setup. I was nervous about that, but actually it was all perfect. On the engine I managed to convince them to use my main dealer.

Hope you get sorted Thumbs Up

Thanks for the prompt reply. Mine has the Huddersfield but concerned that alone is not enough toned recon box. Not sure where they draw the line / what tests they need. Thanks again.
