Warranty Direct renewal - downgrade form Luxury to ExtraCare

Afternoon folks,

Warranty direct are offering me a renewal which is a downgrade from LuxuryCare I was on to ExtraCare due to age and mileage.

2009 MY58 D3 HSE
77k

Betterment removed
12k mileage limit
£200 labour
13 months for 12

£900 pa or £225 quarterly.

This is exactly what i was paying last year except they will now only do ExtraCare, does this seem a decent price and what am i missing from luxury care (without getting a magnifying glass over the small print)?

£200 is a lot for labour but my main dealer charge £130 an hour so the lower limit won't cover it.

Is 12k Miles enough? It can be upped foc I think. Plus how long are you going to keep the car/want to keep warranty on it? Took out a 3 year WD policy on my D4 (Extra Care) as got a good rate (£656 a year equiv), incl hifi cover, no betterment, airbags & emissions, dealer rates, 25k miles per year (I think but doubt I'll do 10k), plus what i'I've forgotten. Thumbs Up

Get an AA breakdown policy that covers repairs. I think it does up to £500 per event - parts and labour. It was a very hassle free and painless excercise when I had my alternator fail on the way to France.

Its significantly cheaper than a warranty and any savings you make from the warranty can be put into your repair pot. I suspect You'll be quids in. Thumbs Up

Moo - I used to do exactly what you propose, but changed my mind a few weeks a go following the engine horror stories - I may be paranoid, but at least I've got some comeback other than £500 (though I suspect there would be multiple loops I'd need to jump thorough if the nightmare occurs)

I'm out of the warranty loop anyway at 200k+ but I did one year extra after the LR warranty ran out and just put any warranty savings into a pot. So far eight years later, it has about £7500 in it so I'm quids in, but then I look after it well and I have been blessed by the gods for its reliability. Very Happy

Flip side, had Tesco cover for a couple of years and 5 years of WD cover and never claimed less than paid in premiums. Well in pocket, by several grand, being not blessed by the reliability gods. Whistle

I had the AA breakdown cover on my P38 many moons ago. The infamous BECM started playing up and I lost the use of the headlights. I used my initiative and saved time and money for the AA by driving to my local Indy during day light hours rather than wait for a tow truck. By doing so I shot myself in the foot by showing that the car was still drive-able. I argued that this would not be possible during the hours of darkness, but they were having none of it and didn't pay up. Quite annoying as the repair bill came to £550 which I had to sort myself.

I'm sure it has it's place, just don't make the same mistake as me when you try and claim Sad

Ok ive had WD cover for 3 years now and i wouldn't be without it. I'm well in the black despite land rover themselves covering the last breakdown which was fuel pump tensioner (do change this with your cam belt as mine needed body off to fix the damaged caused by flailing belt!)

So I've established I'm goimg to take up their renewal offer just need to know if I'm having my pants pulled down or is there some room.to negotiate more please Thumbs Up

I used to have a pot that I paid a regular amount into to cover repairs but the recent crankshaft stories and tales of £20k repair bills was enough for me to buy a three year Extracare WD warranty. I paid £2k for three years with betterment removed and Airbag/Emissions included. It will also give me and the next owner a bit of peace of mind when and if I sell it. My pot was up to nearly £400 after I'd paid for servicing, brakes and tyres! I also have the AA cover with the first £500 paid and Green Flag for continental journeys with the caravan. I think the term overinsured could be used here. Not that I have no confidence as I've only really had a suspension compressor in ten years of ownership.

Deal done, ended up knocking £20 off for the year!! down to 880 and then paid 50 extra to have excess removed.

£930 all in for ExtraCare 24k miles 13months cover, no excess, betterment removed, airbag and emissions included. £200 labour rate.

lots of money but lots of cover and peace of mind, and expect to still be in the black in 13months time Thumbs Up

£200 labour rate is a lot even for a stealer , I pay £770 for my 08 on simular mileage , with a labour relate of £60.00 which is less than my Indy charge.

I had this conversation with the sales girl and they have been feeding it back to the underwriters, basicaly the low level covers indies but my main dealer charges £130 an hour so not enough on lower level.
The upper level is ridiculous though as thats plus vat so £240 an hour!!! Bet discomikie would love some of that Thumbs Up
