How many bolts have sheared? I have seen this twice after a belt change and both times two of the bolts had been removed by mistake when somebody removed the timing belt cover and not replaced.Andrew

Two bolts have sheared which you can see from the photo attached. The third bolt I believe was not installed after the cambelt change causing the problem

Yes i can see the photo know, it looks like it was removed by mistake when they were taking the cover off. You cant see the bolts when the water pumps in place you have to just feel the bolt for the cover. All the timing belt cover ones stay fitted to the cover so if one comes fully out you know you have the wrong bolt.
If you have a hot glue gun put a small blob of glue on the end of a match stick and glue it to the end of the bolt, it usually twists straight out. You will need three new genuine bolts and i would also take the time to replace the water pump.Andrew

Dont suppose anyone knows what bolts they are?
Cheers

Part RYG500220 M6*20mm Flanged hex head.
Genuine bolts priced at £2.44, inc Vat, 1 off.
Much cheaper for non genuine or in quantity.
Used in multiple positions.
Given the risk, I have fitted genuine.
Torque 10Nm, 7ftlbs.

Got to the bottom of what happened with mine. I had missed the top bolt out.
Tried drilling 1 of the bolts out with no success
Tried re-tapping and the tap snapped in the hole agggghhh.
Whats next Heli Coil?

Helicoil = involving drilling & tapping….
Are you sure you yourself are up to that job?
Might be the last chance here… since there is not much “meat” and cast iron is tricky to repair…Best regards

I tried an easy out 1st. It was having non of it lol. Even heated it up. The lower right, if comes to it can drill it out then nut and bolt but will be tight to get at. The lower left, I think I may be able to get it out as the thread spun into the block when trued to drill it 😳
If all else fails I will pull the engine and fit another as theres also an issue with the OS head.

For the lower left, at least, a reverse direction, left hand drill, would probably be successful.
Both these drills and easyouts have to be positioned in the centre of the broken stub if they are to screw the stub out without breaking.

Bit of an update, managed to remove the snapped lower left bolt by reverse drilling it.
Lower right was a nightmare removing the snapped tap
Ended up hitting it with a center punch till it came out the other side. I then drilled, tapped and fitted a helicoil. Now all good.
Amy thanks.
