weird kangaroo-ing ?? now waiting for LR Assist

This morning on the way bak from school run I have had my first real problem.

Coming out of a roundabout at 25mph, tried to accelerate back up to 60. When the car started to feel like it was mis-firing. This developed in to a kangaroo-ing up the busy A31. The motion was so jerky that I had to slow.

No warning lights on the dash

It felt as if the car could not find the correct great and this continued as I slowed down to a stop. On stopping at the side of the road I selected park then back into drive thinking that maybe the gear box had goat bit confused. This Seemed to help and I could carry on Without a problem until…..next roundabout. Accelerating out of roundabout same problem.

Still no warning lights! pulled in and selected neutral. Again able to carry on and it seemed to drive normally.

Then along short section of dual carriage way no problem, until going up steep hill and slowing down to 30 when the whole thing started again.

Pulled off road into neutral revved engine and on holding 2000rpm engine started to vary up and down between 1000-2000 rpm. it then settled.

Drove home which was about 1 mile without further problem.

No warning lights have come on

LR assist are coming to have a look!

Anyone else has this ?

Sounds exactly the same as mine was a year ago.

It happened on four or five occasions with about two weeks between each event, the first three I called LRA but of course as I had switched it off it wouldn't reoccur. The first time absolutely nothing was found and no fault codes. Second time a loose battery lead was found (i had just had a duff battery replaced on warranty before the first event) and we thought that was it. Third time it went into the dealer but absolutely nothing was found, brake light switch was changed just in case, fourth time I was in the middle of nowhere, stopped and restarted and was fine, Fifth time, back to the dealer for a couple of days, nothing found and has not happened since, now over a year ago.

There was one other on here it happened to, Spibes, but he has now sold I believe.

Does it feel like a misfire or more centrally located, like transmission? I have issues with my transfer box ECU connections (D3 though) and its similar but definitely feels like kangaroo'ing. Think when we read the codes there wasn't actually anything related to it.

Hi Dave and Albal,

Dave it's identical to your thread!!!

Technician found no fault codes at all. Maybe because the car had been switched off for sometime by the time he got here. He checked the hoses To see if they were loose, and causing a air leak to the turbo and gave other connections a once over.

Went for a good test drive but could not replicate the problem!

Albal, the lack of acceleration and lose of power felt like a transmission fault, as if it was locked in too high a gear, but was unable to change down. Using command shift with the paddles made no difference. Selecting N or P seemed to reset it.

I have noticed that since it had the recent transmission update it holds onto 8th, whereas it used to change up and down a bit more often.

What amazed me more was that there were no warning lights at all. That did seem strange considering that lose of power and jerkiness.

At least I've been given the option of a hire car and to take it in if I'm not happy. But by Dave's account it may take a few visits Big Cry

It'll be Sod's law that it happens again, this time when I'm on the outside lane of the m25 in rush hour !!

I'll update the thread if anything else happens.

Cheers

Neil

It did seem to be almost exactly 2 weeks between my incidents and it never happened when I could just take it to the dealer without switching it off.

The first time it lasted about 15 miles whilst we drove home, getting worsr and worse, the LRA man then took it for a long test drive with me in the car for about 45 mins and not a stutter at all. I felt it was like someone jabbing the brakes on.

If it does happen again, you need to get it to a dealer without switching it off at all (or LRA if easier), as soon as it is switched of it reset mine. Good luck but I wouldn't hold my breath. Thumbs Up

Roundabouts and going up a steep hill....., sounds to me like a fuel or or rather fueltank problem

the latest

Hi,

just thought that you would like to know that the car had ben running really well since it first played up.

………

Then went down short steep hill lost acceleration and got a red triangle "Restricted performance".

LR assist came out and its now going into Guava Guildford For guess what …. Faulty EGR.

The LR technician said that this was relatively unknown on D4's

Just when you thought that D4's were immune from the EGR problems it has re emerged!

At least I hope that this is the cause of the original problem and not something else going on

Will update when I get more news.

Neil

Mine did this, exactly as you say, LRA fiddled with the brake pedal sensor and never had it again.

Seen this twice, both times a fuel sender problem triggering the 'pretend I am out of fuel mode'.
