Hi there,
I've been looking for a descent disco3 over the past weeks (in the Netherlands) and think I found one, but .... it has some quirks ... like they tend to have.
So far this forum - found by google - has help me to understand the problems and remedies.
Now I am in doubt; should I buy one or not. You can spend money only once ....
My disco3 (2006 TDV6 HSE) has following quirks:
- compressor: warning no temperature rise when in use (It has a new one fitted, so probably an electrical issue)
- compressor: top cover missing or mounted completely wrong; compressor visible / exposed to the elements. (Bottom cover is mounted with 2 bolt insetad of 3)
- upper tailgate, right body strut loose
- interior light stay on
- battery drain (related to interior lights possibly)
New suspension fitted (compressor, hoses, 4 air shocks)! Seems to work ok and keep the disco3 at level for days.
233.000 km is OK. Engine cold start (in summer) is fine, no knocking and rattling sounds.
Give me a few days and I'll decide....

Just saying hi to everyone. I’ve been around the Land Rover scene with a couple of Defenders and some years ago a couple of Series III vehicles. I’ve joined to get a better insight of day to day ownership of the Discovery 3 and 4 vehicles and pick up a few travel/vehicle camping tips. Hopefully I can contribute a few of my own tips/recommendations. Looking forward to getting to know you guys and gals.

Hi Folks, just popping in to say hello.
Got my first LR in August last year; a bum basic 7 seater with space for the kids and the dog which is pretty much why i bought it
Working my way through various servicing issues and starting to make my own mark on it; hopefully be a long termer for use as a family adventure bus.

with any LR the question is not IF something is wrong with it, but what actually IS
As a recent owner of a disco4 in belgium, I am convinced that the disco3/4 is the best of the lot at LR/RR ever built BUT still not without issues YET all seem to be resolvable just fine... just at a PRICE...
I've heared from multiple sources both here, also on landy forum, and also on lr owners club belgium fora, that it's very capable and well built but is relatively expensive in maintenance and fixing costs
So far I can confirm that

2005 D3 juddering when accelerate |
|
I need some advice. I have a 2005 disco 3 and it judders as I accelerate and the Rev course er bounces up and down. Gets worse up hills and around 1500-2000 revs. When I take foot off accelerator it stops
It was showing a fuel pressure sensor fault code, new sensor fitted, no more code but not much improvement. Now it isn’t showing any error code but still won’t drive right.
There is also a coolant leak in the back of the engine (body has to come off to fix this I’ve been told) not sure if this can be related?
It also makes a buzzing sort of noise every now and then.
The garage is a bit lost what to do next, Has anyone had similar problems or offer any advice?

Welcome.
The problem with juddering sounds like torque converter / gearbox on the way out. Usually the TC. You can add Dr. Tranny to mitigate the symptoms or replace the TC. Searching the forums will help you a lot.
Coolant leak is probably not related.
When does the buzzing sound occur?

Howdy!
I recently joined the LR3/Disco3 club! I'll try to be brief, but I have a problem of not adhering to that much.
Anyway, I've always enjoyed off-roading, always with Jeeps but unfortunately they're just not practical for the long haul, not with a wife and a child anywho. So while I still own, love and regularly drive my 2000 TJ we needed something family oriented. We came from a F150 but got tired of not having an enclosed area and also didn't want a car payment so we started looking around. All I knew is I wanted an four door SUV with 4WD/AWD.
I don't particularly understand why (I think it's owed to an undue ill repute) but in the world of Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, Durangos, Suburbans, Tahoes, Explorers, Expeditions, etc. the Land Rover Discoveries here in the US are far and away a way, way better value! I did a fair amount of research and we ended up hopping into a Buckingham Blue 2006 LR3 SE (LHD, auto, 4.4L V8). I love it so far despite a few, uh, "quirks" so to speak... but because of those quirks I've signed up here in hopes I can get some assistance!
We are looking forward to many miles and years in our new-to-us LR3! Glad to be here!

Hi All,
My name is Matt, New in these parts but an avid Land Rover enthusiast from Derbyshire / Peak District.
I currently own a Defender 90 TD5 which has been a great truck for me but I try not to use it for daily duties these days and have made do with a runaround alongside this however I find myself in the Defender more often than I should be so need a Daily LR.
I’m currently in the pursuit of the right Discovery 3 HSE for day to day work commute 30 mile round trip with weekly site visits that are around 300 miles round trip. Also plan to drive to the South of France late summer if I have one by then.
I have a budget of £10k so ideally I’d like to get a well cared for Discovery 3 close to 100k with good service history and recent belt replacements. It seems I should have some change left over which should allow me to deal with any new ownership woes, and chucking a little money at it where necessary.
Come across this one which I’m tempted by, but I’m still learning and before buying anything will spend plenty of time on the forum soaking up knowledge.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ad...rchad=Used
I must admit I do find myself preferring to buy from like minded people rather than dealers, if anyone has anything that meets the following do message me as I am geneuinely in the market.
- Black or Grey paintwork
- Black leather
- HSE Spec
- FSH and assuming over 100k proof of belt changes etc.
Still learning and reading up on potential common issues which I’m prepared to deal with should they arise, all part and parcel of the LR ownership. I have a local LR specialist that does work on my Defender who works on a lot of Disco’s and RR’s so I’m covered for any future labour/ service requirements.

Just wanna say Hello from Vienna, Austria.
I'm currently an owner of a 08 Freelander 2 i6 HSE but I'm interested in a Disco4 SDV6. Before risking the upgrade I would like to learn more about the Disco 4.
My LR2 has been very reliable for a Land Rover and is still in very good shape after 193.000km. Hope to have a similar experience with a Disco4.
I would love to buy a patrol car again instead of diesel, but these are not available in Austria.

Hi and thanks for letting me join, I’m not a LR3 owner at the minute but will be on the lookout for one as soon as I’ve sold my motorcycle, my wife and I do have an evoque but I’m after the LR3 for myself, I’ll look forward to gaining a wealth of information from your site, kind regards, Gary.
