New D3 owner

Just for fun I am now the happy (time will tell) owner of a grey D3 HSE (when I was there last Stornoway was quite green).

It of course is going to be a money pit Big Cry , they may be legal but the front tyres are not ones I want to use with the grandchildren on board. Then there is the issue of a missing fishing hook thingy, I'm told essential as I want to tow with it, apparently it goes in a hole in the back somewhere. Whistle

Disco Issues

Hi I'm a new member from good old Norfolk, I have a 2010 Disco 4 pain in the Censored .

On a fault Diagnosis check for a suspension error the Fault code comes up as NSR suspension valve error.
When looking at diagrams there seems to be TWO valves on the near side, one near the compressor and one near the NSR suspension actuator.
My question is which valve would any of you guys define as the NSR suspension valve because they are quite different...?

Hi guys

Just bought myself my first LR, a Discovery 3 2.7tdv6 hse 2005

I bought it knowing there was a few problems with it (suspension, radio not working and steering related issues)
As I have dove deeper into fault finding I’ve found various hidden problems (dash cluster for one, someone has had a go at repairing themselves and made I right mess let’s just say)

Anyway I’ve always wanted a discovery and finally now got one
Hopefully I will find anything I need to know from here

Welcome all new members and owners.
Its worth using the Search facility at the top of the page to look for answers to your queries/faults first. If nothing, then better to post under an existing topic or start new one (if nothing on that subject available) rather than using this area of the forum as it gets lots of posts and queries get lost/unnoticed.
Good luck all
Cheers
 Gary

Thanks for accepting, thought I would pop in to say hi! Have recently decided to keep the D3 I brought a few months ago and now deciding on options to make it a bit more off road ready.

New to LR world

Hello all,

I recently bought a Discovery 3 TDV6 S because I needed a practical but comfortable car.
I got an IID tool to go with it as it seems to be the first thing to do.

The car screen was in Italian but I'm french. So, I changed the CCF file to get it in my language.
I also recalibrated the longitudinal sensor as the guy who sold it to me made some maintenance on the parking brake but forgot (or was unable) to calibrate the sensor which of course resulted in an orange light on the dash.

I also installed a steering wheel with Cruise controls and activated it today.

I'm an automotive suspension engineer and I have to say this is a great car.
The ride is beautiful. I love it. Smile

I hope we'll interact and exchange on our Disco as I'm willing to continue improving it as much as possible to fit my needs.

Hello everyone! Here for a bit of guidance and knowledge regarding the dreaded snapped crank. I have a gen1 rrs with 86k that's running but sounds far from healthy and it's likely going to be a failed crank, has anyone figured out the cheapest way to repair / replace?

A quick hello from me, have been lurking a little lately and making use of the very helpful wiki of yours thanks.

I had a very nice D1 several years ago that I should have got some welding done on but instead replaced with a D2 which I really liked but was a bit of a pain in the backside with numerous leaks and warning lights. Got it sorted, loved it for a while but when another leak appeared and I got bored of fixing it as it was my daily and our main car so parted company and got a new focus on PCP and have swapped through a few new ones since, currently a Fiesta ST.

I'm mostly working from home and swmbo has an S max, the fiesta doesn't see much use so isn't really giving value for money. I'm also missing the laning trips I used to do and would like something I can stick a bike carrier on, use for carrying stuff while we're doing the house up etc.

Currently looking for an 04-06 D3, S or SE with no sunroofs and no side steps in the hope that helps from a rot point of view. Will be buying diagnostics when I get the car and am happy to get my hands dirty for most jobs.

So thanks again for the resources on here, will try not to ask any silly questions and will hopefully have something to contribute some point in the future!

Hi. Brand new to the site and brand new to disco ownership…. And it’s not going too well…

Always loved them since my boss had one years ago and always wanted to own one. My wife got pregnant with our third so the extra space and optional 7 seats was a perfect excuse to grab one. After months of searching for the right one, finally settled on a 09 disco3 2.7. Was a cat N but that didn’t bother me as it was immaculate after a complete respray drive well on both test drives (short distances due to lack of tax and low fuel) and an extra £100 on the insurance each year didn’t seem much to get slightly newer at my budget.

I bought it just before Christmas and as soon as I got it on the motorway, “Suspension Fault Normal Height Only” followed by, “Engine system fault”, followed by limp mode. Tried to get back in touch with the guy and blocked at every turn, didn’t live in the flats he had come out of…

Went to Land Rover Soecialist- EGR blank with no delete on ECU £350, suspension pump replacement £1200-£1400, and best of all intake manifold leaks both to replaced at £3000-£3500!!

Managed to find someone to remap the egr (+stage 1) for £250 but “Engine System Fault” still coming up and I’m feeling a slight revving when cruising along.

Not sure what to do at the moment as I’m still a bit gutted. Would happily attempt to change out the pump for a reconditioned at about £150 but manifold replacement is too much for my knowledge and I just don’t have £3000 to spare with a third kid on the way and two still under 5 years old (child care is an absolute killer!).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Is it worth attempting replacing the manifolds? We buy any car are only offering me £1050 for the car so I suppose I’m not gonna get much back anyway and I’m not willing to sell it on knowing the faults and trying to hide it.

Welcome to the new members Thumbs Up

AdamB - good luck with your search Very Happy and there is no such thing as a silly question - can't same the same about the answers Laughing

BillyPrett - sorry to hear of your woes. I would suggest finding a local recommended independent LR specialist. £3000 is very high to replace both manifolds - something nearer to £1600 for both is more the norm. If you do a new post in the D3 section asking for recommendations of independents in your area I'm sure you'll get some recommendations. I would suggest getting a code reader (IID or Autel - use the search function on here for comments on both), get the error codes and post them on here in the D3 section and I'm sure you get some better advice. Good luck Thumbs Up

hi everyone

Hi guys; I'm David; pleased to make your acquaintance. I've been using this forum for years to help guide me fix up a 2007 LR Disco 3 I bought from a scrap-yard as a write-off back in 2012. It's still going strong, though not without this forum's ongoing support!
