Hi Martin, I come here from Disco2.com. Having just sold my D2, I have in its place a brand spanking new TDV6 HSE. Hopefully I will find this forum as useful as Disco2.com was.
My first comment - The D3 manual is poor. It is missing some important bits in relation to the Fuel Burning Heater, like how to operate it!.
My car has a setting in the SETTINGS menu to switch the heater on at a preset time, to pre-heat the cabin. There is NO reference to this in any of the books, and the dealer was not much help either!
I am going to phone LR tech support tomorrow, and find out what it is all about.
Other than that, its a fine car.

Just thought I would say Hello
At last a forum just for the Discovery 3!!! weehee I have a new TDV6 HSE Auto which I think is great !! it is not my first Land Rover as 4 years ago I had a millenium Freelander but more recently I have been a BMW X5 and X3 driver for the past 4 years and boy does this D3 beat both cars hands down. the D3 is fantastic not quite as quick is the diesel X5 with the new engine but the D3 excells on far more other areas.
Cheers Neil

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum!
Glad you're liking your Disco 3 so far, no doubt there will be an ECU remap available soon to sort the power problems
Out of interest what are the chrome tubes on your spec?

Hi
i can set it and the red preheater light comes on but I have never really tested it to make sure it actually come on, it would seem you have to do it each time you want it, instead of it been the same time each day, I will try it for you and let you know.

Yes, I set mine with the SETTINGS menu, Pre-heat on 30 minutes, then ON at XX:XX hrs. The red light flashes on the dash when I lock the car afterwards. But the heater does not come on.
This morning it was 1 degree, and it would have been nice to have it work! As soon as I started the engine, there was a cloud of steam and fumes from under the front bumper, I opened the bonnet and the heater was running. So this means that the heater itself works, it looks like the timer electronics don't. I would like to hear if yours works. I suspect a bug in the software!

Hi Gareth
It would seem mine has the same problem, is the pre heater the unit on the forward right of the engine bay with the hot surface warning stickers ?
Was has your dealler said ?
also I seen to have another issue with my D3.... if i park it up on a night in ride height when i return to the car in the morning it has lowered down to access height, my dealer doesnt know if this is normal. does yours do it ? could you test ?
also how are you getting on with voice control ? do you know where the microphone is as mine can only understand me when stationary and even then it still get some numbers confussed.
Cheers Neil

I have not had a reply on the pre-heater yet. My voice control is OK, although I still need to learn how to use it properly. The car stays at the normal height. I have not left it in off road height yet, i will try tonight for you.

Sometimes yes it does, not always though. It sometimes gives a little hiss when I unlock it and open a door to. My S2 Disco used to do this also, so I think its normal.
