Well That is That Then.

After 19 years, nearly 14 in Discovery 3s and 4, my Land Rover days have just been signed away. Disillusionment with LR dealers, engines and new models has led me to the dark side.

I have just signed up for a 2 year old Porsche Cayenne V8 diesel that someone has gone mad with the options list. No it won't do much off road but it does tow 3.5t, does have more room in the cabin than the D4, has a sound to die for and does 0-60 in just over 5 seconds.

It won't suit some/many but now is as good a time as any to change, try out the Porsche experience, swerved the crankshaft issue and oil dilution fiasco and to quote the D5 owners I don't have to see how ugly it is from the inside. Thumbs Up

So vultures can start circling, there will be a host of items coming up from unused HSE Lux deep pile carpet mats, used rubber mats and load liners to RLD wheel protectors and a Lintran cage.

Sorry to see you go, after 19 years no one can question your loyalty to the marque.
Enjoy your new car, the new design has righted many of the perceived wrongs of the original (to my eyes anyway).....we can but live in hope LR do the same with the D5 Wink
While I wouldn't dismiss a Cayenne, I find myself with a deep and unnatural yearning for an Audi SQ7 at the moment Shocked

The car had no problems beyond a small oil leak that was fixed and the heating issue that I don’t think has ever been fixed. But when you have a dealer telling you that your TPMS does not give you a pressure reading, despite the manual saying it does and you guys on here saying it does and them saying the manual is a generic one and you can’t believe anything on the internet, you know you’re onto a loser. It is sad to be leaving the fold but LR deserve it. Many years ago I met the CEO of M&S who told me that the customer is always king except in turbulent times when they are a dictator, so interesting times ahead.

The engine is sublime, I don’t care how good four pot engines get they aren’t going no to sound like a big V8. 850nm of torque gives you a different permagrin Laughing

Nothing wrong with the D5 apart from the price tbh, but it’s all relative. You could have got a D4 HSE for the price of a poverty level D5 S. Times move on.

I was an instructor on a VAG support day at millbrook and we had the Q7s, when we asked why HDC didn’t work the dealer has to switch it on for you, apparently if you use it to much the abs pump dies, the guys from Scotland comented that the suspension air lines have a habit of freezing then popping out, besides all the story’s of woe it was a lovely drive even if we had to give up on the sand hills, the only way up was full throttle that meant air at the top Laughing

You have a point Pelyma, if anything the dealerships are getting more belligerent if that’s possible. Rolling Eyes
