As you all or most know I have not been a D3 driver since the fire in central Queensland. The LRs I have had have undoughtably been the best performing and comfortable 4x4s I have ever had but sadly the ones I have had have all been double trouble except my old Series II.
After much indecision etc. finally I have ordered a new Toyota, 76 wagon V8 diesel It should arive in early January. My choice was between the Defender and the Tojo wagon and the tojo won out. Only one computor the engine management one. I was not going to risk another LR, this is very sad to me as I like everything about them except my bad luck with them.
So now its a no frills 4x4, solid axels boath ends, wind up windows, and vinal floor Wont have to worey about dirt dust mess now just lots of off road trips
I have enjoyed this forum and the people I have met from the forum, but I wont have much input now. I would like to still keep an eye on the forum.
Thanks to you all,
Have a merry christmas and a safe one,
Cheers

I think you've done OK Rob. I assume you're not going to be using it as a tourer though?
As far as i can see the only downside to the 76 is the price, but you are right. Not much to go wrong on that baby! Does it even have an FM radio? 2012 MY13 SDV6 SE D4 Ipanema Sand with Almond leather
2012 TDI Passat - they reckon the DSG is crap, I reckon it's awesome
2010 MY11 Mitsubishi Challenger - Gone (it was a "Challenging Year")
2007 MY08 TDV6 SE - gone

Dan,
Yes it has an FM radio with Ipod in and USB port, CD and sterio
I will be useing it as a tourer, as to creature comforts it has air con but there will be the usual mods, winch bar, aux battery, engle fridge, and see how the limited slip diff goes but later I will fit a set of air diff locks.
As for price, yes its dear but all Toyotas are, but in the end all that I have had end up inexpencive over the years
with maintance and running costs and resale value.
This will be a no nonsence 4x4 for trips in the bush.
When I got the D3 we needed it as our family car as well, now SHMBOs car forfills that role now so this one can be just as I would like
We have made a new years resolution that once a month we go on a long weekend trip as well as the usual yearly big trip outback 8) Now we just have to make it happen
Cheers

Sorry to hear you wont be returning to the LR fold. (I can understand your reluctance after your experience)
You will have some fun on unsealed roads when they get some wheel tracks. Front and rear track of the Tojo are different. Basically the first model Prado (which we didn't get here, with widened front track for TD V8).
You will not arrive as refreshed as in the D3 though. But I suppose you have got used to that with the project Tojo.
Good luck with it but I couldn't justify the poor value for money. Rather get a second hand D3 and put the extra money aside for maintainence. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Thanks to you all,

Good luck Rob When I did the Cape York trip last year I only saw two 200 Land Cruisers but a large number of the 4.5 litre diesel tray backs with various camper setups on the back. When we got to Big Red on the way back there were two Troopies with the 4.5 V8 diesels. But read this http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/813...-bang.html and don't let Toyo get away with anything.

My mate paid $76k for kitted out 76, great car as long as you don't want to tow anything, have ABS ,Airbags, Auto, but you do get a free interior coating of dust when you do head off road. Trust me, what could go wrong?

Rob
I hpe you have a better time with this one......actually you couldn't
have as many problems as you did with your D3 again.
Toyota have some issues but nothing like LR.
Keep us posted on your thoughts on the troopy. Pete

Peter,
Hope this one wont let us down, its the simplest one on the market, with a fiew mods it should be the ducks guts.
As said it wont be as plush or full of wiz bang comforts as the D3, but I am after a no nonsence 4x4
Its a Workmate station wagon not the troopy, very similer different body.
Hopefully it will arive at my door in January just got to wait now and being a inpatient person it will seem a long time
Cheers
