Take the car if you go to Mull.

Another interesting one is take the ferry from Mallaig to Knoydart and visit the pub, Google it.

If your kids are into climbing just throw them out the door in the morning, if they can't amuse themselves. Whistle

Take the road from Fort William to Mallaig, its stunning. Stop off at the beach at Araisaig for a picnic. If you have seen the film Local Hero its where the house was on the beach. Go over to skye for the day and get on the Cullin ridge. such a special place

Thanks, great stuff, I used to climb in Skye when I was a lot younger so would be good to go back. Will start on the itinerary soon when I have got all the ideas in and done research. Thumbs Up

Voice your narrow minded opinion of the locals in the Ben Nevis bar and the midgies will be the least of your worries Wink

You can do a boat trip from Croabh Haven Marina (Fairsain Tours) needs to be booked in advance, but can be a great day out, loads of wildlife to see, but no gadgets!

1st post and a visiting member from the RRS forum (Darkside) Whistle

Would highly recommend a trip through the Corryvreckan, and the kids would love it but you need to get your timings right with the tides to get the best experience but most of the tour / charter companies know there stuff, Have a search on YouTube. and check out the links below.

Also if time permits then a trip to Ice Factor in Kinlochleven ( http://www.ice-factor.co.uk ) then up to the Clahaig Inn at Glencoe ( http://www.clachaig.com ) for a well deserved lunch and a pint Very Happy

Ive been through the Corryvreckan twice while sailing and it is an amazing experience Thumbs Up

Think I'll apply for a job with the tourist board.... Rolling with laughter

Regards,
Dave.

went there easter time last year, stopped in a cottage on the edge of Loch Awe.

absolutley loved it. no midges that time of year just plenty of sunshine.

if you like walking there are plenty of walks around, walked 5 hours one day and never saw another person. landscape is vast.

oban is a day out at most, pretty poor shops but nice nevertheless.

if you like gardening there are a few private estates that are open to public you can wander around.

never got round to doing the ferry to mull etc... but looked a good day out.

I have booked a cottage near Oban, so looking forward to it, thanks for all the tips, wading through web sites, looks fantastic with so much to do Thumbs Up

I have a 4mtr Searider RIB that is the tender to the mothership, I have a trailer for it, wondering if it was worth taking it up. I can't dive for another year due to pneumonia but wife and daughter are diving so I will have time to play. The Searider is a very capable RIB with flooding inner hull, have been out with it in reasonably rough weather and it copes, it has a 50hp engine on it.

I suggest the Argyll seaside route from Oban to Tarbert on loch fyne then take the boat to Portavadie and from there to Dunoon the boat over the firth of Clyde and onto Glasgow.

At that time of year I think you'll be totally safe. But just in case I'd pack a bottle of Smidge midge repellant, in my experience far superior to Avon Skin So Soft. It was developed at Edinburgh Uni. Here's a link:
http://www.midgeforecast.co.uk/

It was also reassuring that when I was on Rum (arguably the worst place for Midges in Scotland) I met a couple of locals who used it.

My partner's daughter is starting work here http://www.ridgway-adventure.co.uk/ in April so sometime in late May, we're going to haul the tintent up there and stay nearby for a week - probably here http://www.scourie.co.uk/pages/sidenavigat...p-site.htm.

Looks to be stunning Very Happy

Anybody got any suggestions for 'must visits' in that area Question

Midges don't start till the 3rd weekend in May.
