Whatever you do – don’t turn the ignition off!!! |
|
Went to shops yesterday with Mrs and daughter – I drove – on way back stopped off at the local – lad then rang up to be picked up from bowling a few miles away - stopped at pub, engine running, I got out, Mrs, drove off – 30 mins later – get the call ‘have you got the keys’ - yes – in my pocket – car about 4 miles away! - Whatever you do – don’t turn the ignition off!!!
Thought that it would have stopped after not noting key for that long

It is designed like that....unfortunately if a thief drove in your car and it decided to 'cut out' (because the key was absent) and caused an accident then LR would be liable for the resulting carnage.....
The lack of ignition barrel is merely a 'lazy ignition' option rather than a security feature!!!

Hi
Im sure that isnt right the car is supposed to cut out when it senses that the key isnt there should be no more than say between 10 to 20 feet before it cuts out, this is what happens with other keyless entry vehicles
I would get this checked maybe some other D4 owners could try this and report back
cheers

Mine will go forever as long as you don't turn it off?
I only wish there was a button on the key to remotely turn it off

Isnt there a warning message.... |
|
comes up on the dash with a warning gong ?
The Jag system (much the same) with keyless start & stop
has a very large warning come up if you do this BREXIT - done properly.

My mates RR Sport does the same.....we tried it last night.....he drove to the shops and back (about 3 miles) without the key.
As I said before it MUST be a 'lazy ignition' feature and not a security feature

Does the RRS have a central dash (between speedo & rev counter) display of alarms ?
Does the D4 have the same ?
most recent Jags have this & it displays alarms in multi colours LARGE....my XK also puts a small version of the sat nav instructio9ns there so you can turn main screen off & get data when you need iit where you can see it.
The system works very well as you can turn off the main sat nav screen at night & just run from the dashboard display.....standard feature BREXIT - done properly.

I get lucky then; as the only thing SWMBO miss seeing is only the 100,000 cobweb effects an automatic car wash gives black paint (Every time )
only takes 5-8hrs of proper clean/polish/sealant/ wax to get something looking acceptable (just) Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Mine didnt notice the bonnet open - on one side only . She drove to the shop a couple of miles away, slowly.
When she came back I noticed the bonnet wasnt lined up properly, pushed it back.
Went in and asked if she noticed anything - not really, apart from some stupid light flashing at me. I give up D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR

It stops the engine - I've done it.
The engine will stop if the button is held for a couple of seconds, but perhaps only if the gearshift is in neutral. Its the LR documented procedure for to restart to overcome the 'reduced performance' condition without having to stop. Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs
