what's the "eye" at the base of the mirror for

Hi peeps,

quick question;

I am looking to instal a camera behind the mirror (Blackvue), but note that at the base of the mirror there seems to be a lens facing forward. Wondered if this was a sensor for headlights or anything else? Can I obstruct it?

even if I place the BV directly between it and the windshield? Will that not affect the ability of the sensor?

That would make sense, which means that I shouldn't really obstruct it... Confused

I love this forum. I keep reading aobut things that I never knew I had! Pretty sure my BV is obstructing mine then!

Edit: or this just a D4 thing?

Apols some confusion on my part ...The eye on the mirror is ...which is what I put first (hence the EDIT) but the way it reads i.e. "facing forward" ? I then thought Rich might have been talking about the lights\rain sensor in the windscreen. Smile

Rich...how are you planning to mount the BV ....I wouldn't think it would be near the sensor on the mirror tbh Confused

On my D4 I have the Blackvue mounted on the passenger side of the interior mirror, a) so it doesn't obstruct the sensor and b) so I can't see it Thumbs Up

Ah ...right ...I see ....well that's the front light sensor which works with the sensor in the mirror and allows for auto dimming

Quote:
Automatic Dimming Interior Mirror

Power for the feature(s) in the automatic dimming interior mirror is provided in power mode 6 (ignition).

Automatic Dimming

The light sensor in the front of the mirror monitors ambient light at the front of the vehicle and the light sensor in the rear of the mirror monitors the light coming from behind the vehicle. When the light from behind the vehicle exceeds the ambient light level, the automatic dimming circuits darken the interior mirror.

Automatic dimming is inhibited when reverse gear is selected, to provide the driver with maximum vision.

I've not noticed any effect with the BV where I have it mounted Smile

I took the post to mean the forward facing sensor for the headlight auto dipping Question

I have one of those. I believe it sits in a plastic protrusion at the bottom of the RV mirror. Anyone know what angle needs to be kept clear in front of it?

There's an image sensor for the HBA Dave it's below the Lights/Rain sensor ...the system does use the little ambient light sensor in the back of the mirror as a reference as well ....but the daddy sensor is in the windscreen Thumbs Up
