Re: Whats Got Your Goat Up today ?

What's got my goat up today?

A winch and a blanket. And some metacam. And a sizeable bill from the vet.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

She went down last week. Not sure what caused it, but been unsteady on her pins for a few days. Did a sweep for anything toxic in the paddock, but nothing turned up and her stool is fine. Had vet out last week for metacam and later for a multivitamin and minerals shot. Have manually lifted her up a couple of times a day with little sign of her weight-bearing so had a call in with the vet to send her off to join her lifelong partner in crime who left us for the eternal paddock in late May.

Vet turns up, and there's said goat looking relatively lively and attempting to move herself around on the floor.

So out came a blanket and a winch/hoist and we jacked her up on her feet, gave her another healthy dose of metacam and decided she gets a reprieve, see if we can get the circulation and muscle back in her legs.

She's a bu**er

Is she a pet Al? They are funny creatures goats, we used to use them as wet nurses for orphan lambs, the only creature I know that can produce milk when it isn't pregnant or suckling its own young; I hope she makes a swift recovery Thumbs Up

Very elderly pet - in the region of 16-18 years old (we had the call from Prince Andrew to check). Originally obtained with a view to kidding and milking, along with her lifelong partner in crime who had to be put to sleep earlier in the year. Never got that far, so they just helped dispose of the insane amounts of ash and willow around our place, and kept the odd pair of lambs company.

Now it's the sheep looking after her Very Happy

We're seeing signs of her trying to take her weight on her legs and use them to change position while in the hoist, so not a lost cause yet.

Oh, you're preaching to the choir with that one. I hate it too.

I've seen people do it in written form too, in posts on forums, which is even more ridiculous.
