Madness. Burn the right fuel and burn it properly - either proprietary stuff or just good old dry wood - and it's fine. The issue is people burn damp wood or try to just have a little bit of a fire. Neither will burn properly or hot enough to ensure more complete combustion. It's incomplete combustion that causes the soot.
I do wonder if half of the people with log burners have them for those two or three days when they have people round and so have no idea how to run them properly. A bit like the people that only use the village pub at Christmas - and usually call it "our pub". Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

And buy their wood from the local supermarket. Chances of it being seasoned or kiln-dried quite low.2014 - D4 2010 HSE Nara Bronze

Well, it might have been properly seasoned and dried, but it was last seen either floating round the car park, or sitting under the (leaking) roof drain on the garage forecourt....Rob Smith

“A bit like the people that only use the village pub at Christmas - and usually call it "our pub".” - love this. Although thank goodness strange pubs are a lot easier to use than lighting a different wood burner for the first time!

Most of that headline value is in the form of vouchers for things like liposuction, although there is four-figure jewellery in there too, apparently.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I took the motorcycle out today, just a couple of miles down the road to warm up then put it back in the garage.
Bear in mind, it’s not exactly a quiet machine, it’s got LED headlamps on all the time and I was driving it slowly, about 20mph, just about to turn into my drive, when ……
A muppet of a motorist in a car waiting to turn onto the road I am on, looking in my direction, waits until I am almost on top of him to pull out across my lane. Thankfully my brakes worked, cos the cars one didn’t!
What a silly billy!

Lloyds bank sending me an envelope stuffed with waste paper to tell me interest rates are up so therefore my credit card charges are to increase (I rarely use it and zero it every month if I do).
Don't remember such attention to detail or speed regarding current and savings account, oh that's because they didn't increase

^^ This is why I like my Chase account, within a few day of Bank of England rates going up, they automatically put their saver interest rate up. 👍

A number of car "goat getters":
1. People driving around in heavy mist / fog with no lights on. Just because it's day time and you can see the road at the end of your bonnet, doesn't mean you're visible to others!
2. DRLs. Why, when they were mandated, did they not make them a requirement at the rear too? At least that way, the idiots in point 1. would have some light showing to the rear even though they're too stupid to realise they need it.
3. "I indicated!" - people who indicate and immediately start to change lanes irrespective of what may already be in the destination lane. Usually MLOC members who decide they need to overtake something for a change and just indicate and go for L3. Good job others ARE paying attention.
4. Fog lights on all day - even though the mist cleared two hours ago, I'm going to keep my fog light on for the entire journey. What? You expect me to pay attention, show some respect to others and turn the light off when it's not needed?
