First of all decide on the vehicle and then ensure it's up to the task. Then decide on sleeping arrangements, as in camping, Air BnB, etc. After that, it's basically your time, the Internet, email and of course money.
Good luck 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Ill be doing it in my Seat Ibiza Fr, few other mates in other cars. The plan is to pitch a tent where ever we can really. Don't really want to start booking camp sites etc to try and keep cost down! 2009 Discovery 3 HSE - Gone

I really would recommend not camping anywhere other than official campsites. The days of just pitching a tent in a friendly farmers field are long gone. You'd just open yourselves up for a whole load of grief and the attitude of the Gendarmes towards "Rosbifs" can be a little brusque to say the least. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

A road trip that ends at "Fish'n'Chick'n" sounds amazing!
I dont a not too similar trip a few years back, 4 vehicles, camping most nights, CB Radios in each vehicle, had a GREAT time... The only night i planned and booked a campsite was the first, after that it was pretty much 'stick a pin in it' and find a campsite nearby when we got there...
My top tip would have to be don't leave it too late in the day to start looking for digs, and make sure you have enough days in your trip to not have to do loads of driving everyday and to also have a day or two off from driving...
Apart from that, take a good camera and enjoy

Had a look at the route and started zooming in on the start/finish and though it was looking familiar as I live just across the hill in Parwich!!!

If doing this in August, I'd advise pre-booking sites. You'll be spending a few nights in Aires otherwise (not advised ...)

Take what you need, not what you "want".
Try and think in terms of - can this xxxxxxxxx do two jobs? For example, I recently bought a dayglow orange beach towel - so it's a towel and a large signal panel in emergencies.
Para cord and gaffer tape - don't leave the country without. Same goes for a light first aid kit. And I mean, paracetamol, ibuprofen, stomach upset pills, etc, too. Some countries require you see a professional to even get paracetamol.
Multiple cooking facilities, for example, I carry a backup cooker that works with twigs.
Here is a similar one:

Small is beautiful, for example:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142083372466?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT
I bought two recently. I'm 6 foot tall and 15 stone and they are (just about) good enough for me so any smaller than me and they will be fine
Check forums and other places of advice like tripadvisor for things that are "expensive" and "cheap" in different localities, for example, beer is cheap in croatia but diet coke is NOT! lol
So you know what to take with you and what you can buy locally.
Example, tea bags
Depending on your tip length try and buy "technical clothing" such as t-shirts and underwear etc that is quick drying and non-ironing - in the event of inclement weather or washing as you go.
two pairs of shoes/trainers/boots and never forget the trusty flip flops! D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..

Type out your packing list
Keep a journal and/or write an "after action report" noting things that were cheap expensive as discussed and also what you need to take etc if you go to similar places again..
It will help you plan for future trips D3 07 SE - still going strong
