Wheel Advice / Knowledge
Afternoon all.
I just picked up my new to Me Discovery 4. I used to have a D3
I'm looking at buying some defender alloys. but the tyre is bigger.
I am looking and have failed to get the answer at this moment. I am out of the knowledge pot and trying to learn it all again.
I am trying to figure out if I can adjust the speedo or if it is okay to leave it as is.
i currently have 255/50/20 and going to 255/60/20.
The vehicle will be going faster than Speedo states. my wife will be driving the car the most.
any pros and cons. ?

many thanks

The speedo reading can be adjusted via tyre size with an Iid tool, the easiest way to check it is by driving past a speed check sign that is used on some main roads when approaching a speed limit, usually 30mph.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
M3DPO - I would suggest checking speed using Waze or similar when driving at a constant speed on a level & straight road.
When I bought my D4 & moved down in wheel diameter this is what I did.

I think that tyre size will be too big for your disco and will cause running unless you have either lifted with some more mods and potentially trimming of the chassis horn?
I looked in to it a while ago and it was a touch too big. I ended up going with 255/60/19.

I’ve fitted defender wheels with the same 69 profile tyres, I find I get rubbing on full lock in reverse, and that’s it. My Speedo reads bang on with all the GPS devices I have referred too (Waze and WOLFBOX mirror gps) as in 60mph on Speedo is 60mph going by satnav etc
I had mine powder coated satin black and hid some brembo 6 pots behind them. Bad pic but I think they look good
In future I will probably move down to a 55 profile but since the wheels and tyres cost less than half than a set of tyres and have 6mm tread I will persevere

You might find you get some odd errors if you change the wheel circumference up to match that size - i have defender 18" wheels on my d3 and when I adjust the instrument pack circumference right up to the correct value i then get a gearbox error - basically you can adjust instruments not the gearbox values so if there is too much deviation the whole thing falls down in a big heap and the bing bongs start.
You can however also adjust the speedo offset in the CCF i believe which may be a better way to correct the speedo reading if that's all you are after05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet
