Wheel nut torque
A quickie question. From a search I see that 140nm is the setting for tightening the nuts on. Is this a dry or wet figure? By that I mean with lube or not, as I seem to remember from my fitting training that if you slip up the bolts then the amount of torque is reduced to achieve a like for like setting on dry bolts. Therefore possibly overtightening the buggas when I change over to MT/R's tomorrow.
Any input chaps??
Being an official member of the, 'just an ounce more to make sure brigade' and busting a nut last year I dont wish to bust another nut in the short term. I want to keep them intact.....possibly wet, but intact

Wet would be considerably less, but I don't have any figures for how much less. Why don't you want to fit them dry?Bodsys Brake Bible

Just thinking of when I take them back off
I suppose if I get a new torque bar them dry fitting would be ok, as it is with million of cars over the world. Just was thinking of some preventative maintenance thats all. Anytime I loosen of a nut, I get the will it snap, oh' oh' oh'.... ah it's okay as I've done this many time over the last couple of decades.

Torque is 140 ... + or - 10nm
Should that take the wet/dry issue into account?

Not sure if that is enough. I think it was a load reduction of around 25%. I may be wrong though.
Good find with the torque wrench
I'll be sticking with dry nuts I think 8)

MT/R's fitted with dry nuts today. Locking nuts also chucked in the bin.

the quoted torque figure is for factory applied anti corrosion coating. I am not sure of the coating spec for the bolt and studs maybe S442 It will be a Ford spec and is a zinc flake coating with a lubricate topcoat giving a coeffcient of less than 0.1.
But the quoted range is good enough, don't be temped to put anything on the threads, you could easily snap or weaken the studs.
