Slightly left of centre question.
We're looking at a new Quantum SUpercamper which, if we get built for us, we can specify the wheels on. It makes sense to go with ones that will fit the Disco, but I'd tend to go 17in to get higher profile sidewalls.
Does anyone know if Toyota Prado/Cruiser wheels will fit on a Disco? The issue is not just the wheels, but sourcing the hubs by the Quantum manufacturers. If Toyota ones fit, that will be a much simpler solution. If the hubs on a Disco3 are a unique size/spacing, I can't imagine it will be an easy solution.
If the hubs are compatible, what's readily available in aftermarket alloys that might fit? I could obviously look at purchase of 17in Disco wheels, but I imagine they are expensive.
Cheers,

Two years ago I had a very heavy duty trailer made with D3-compatible wheel hubs. The trailer fabricator said it was a "royal p@in in the @ss to get them and never again". (I think they under quoted on the price was the real issue). There was a further problem to look out for. The trailer fabricator kindly put my MTRs on the trailer when I picked it up (it had to have some wheels on it). Turns out that the axle hub on the trailer protruded out so far that when the 19" MTR wheels were bolted on, it cracked the centre of the wheels. It took about 8 hrs with a very small metal grinder to remove the rough edges or the cracks would have propogated outwards and ruined my wheels.
The only lasting problem is the at the "LR" insert to the wheel centres won't ever be able to fit these wheels as the flange they grab was what was crushed by the trailer axle hubs. These wheels are now my "offroad" set (for the soon-to-arrive D4 )and I don't really care that they don't have centres on them. I had to modify the trailer wheel hubs to allow for any D3 wheels to be put on the trailer without smashing the wheel centres. To do so, I kindly begged my friendly dealer to save me a set of ruined D3 brake disks. I just slid these over the trailer hubs before putting on the wheels. Looks like my rather agricultural trailer has big disk brakes on it! "Dynamic" make steel and alloy 17" wheels to suit the D3 - check them out at dynamictyres.com.au
Hope this helps you.
Cheers.

Aren't LC wheels a six stud pattern? Most Japanese 4x4, pickups, etc are six studs.

G'day Martin,
The main question is, what weight is the new Quantum Supercamper, if real heavy, there may not be an axel/hub assembly that can carry the weight AND ALSO have a small (72.6mm) spigot bore. The D3 rim has the following 120mm Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD) and 14mm studs with a 1.5 twist, this is the same as some Holden Commodore's. The spigot diameter is important as, LR rims use this to centrally locate the rim on the hub, the studs and flat washer wheel nuts just hold the rim against the hub. Give Vehicle Components a call and see what they have to say. http://www.vehiclecomponents.com.au/
D3 wheel specs:
Offset = 53mm
Stud (M14 x1.5) hole (x5) PCD = 120mm
Mounting face diameter = 163mm
Spigot bore diameter = 72.63/72.56mm (for a vehicle spigot diameter of 72.5/72.47)
Note the above specs are the same as a Disco2 & RRClassic etc but because of the brake calipers on the D3 these rims wont fit a D3 or RRS. D3 rims have whats called a large "X" factor to accomidate the caliper, whyever such an inexact term is used beats me.
A steel 17" rim for a Commodore will bolt staight on to the D3, however the offset is around 33mm while the D3 is 53mm giving a total track change of 40mm. Most Oz states only allow a change of around 23 to 26mm so if you do go this route then it will get you home from the outback but wont be legal.
HTH,
Ryall

Guys, thanks for all the usefull information contained in your replies. The Quantum is approx 1600Kgs, so I'm figuring around 800Kgs per hub (with a margin of, say 200Kgs per hub extra for water and various other load).
Interesting about the Commodore wheels - it may be the way to go, although I take the point about off-set differences. Still, it's about getting out of trouble in the bush rather than long term use.
Thanks for the link re Vehicle Dynamics and the wheel specs - I'll definately follow that up.
CHeers.

HTH, ''
does the use of commodore rims on the D3 then give a narrower o'all track or a wider track????
thanks

A wider track.
However, I would be worried about load rating and hub centring.
