Thanks.
I’ve just called Saxon the Ctek distributers, and spoke with their technical guy – he said that I’d done the correct thing in reconditioning it and he would’ve done the same thing himself (apparently he does this every 6 months). It doesn’t matter whether it’s an AGM battery or not, the reconditioning mode is safe for all. Likewise he said I won’t have done any harm charging it previously on the non-AGM mode, but that there is a specific AGM charging mode that is slightly more tailored for AGM batteries and I may as well use this in the future.
Until this morning I didn’t know what AGM or an AGM battery was, so I’ve learnt something new! - do I definitely have one in my 2014 D4 though? (As far as I know it’s the standard LR battery)

Every day's a school day Yes, both your main cranking battery and the small secondary battery will be the AGM type. They started fitting them as standard from MY13, or may have even been MY12 D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

Thanks! Glad I haven't done any harm to my battery and that actually I've done the right thing, also I've found that my battery is AGM and therefore can use the AGM charging mode in the future, also I've found I have a 2nd SS battery!
And its only 11:00...!!!

Thanks for following up and sharing this information. I was thinking about changing to buying a cheaper charger if I couldn't use the CTEK conditioning mode on the AGM batts.Gary

Just charge in normal mode rather than AGM.

I am considering getting a Ctek charger for all the good reasons discussed , when charging/trickle charging the battery in the car do you connect the black clamp to a ground in the engine bay (and not the neg terminal) ?.
I have heard different views expressed .
Thanks

As you thought, black clamp (-ve) to ground in the engine bay and NOT directly to the battery! If you do connect directly to the -ve terminal, you'll confuse the BMS and that can lead to problems!D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

I'm thinking of this charger by Ring - 12Amp. Won an autoexpress and a Land Rover group award back in 2015. It also has 4 diagnostic tests including:- Battery voltage test, Start power test, alternator test, Battery cranking performance test.
Let me know what you thinkGary

I’ve just re-read the manual and you are correct! I’ve used ctek chargers for years and just never noticed that before, they’ve all worked perfectly though and never noticed any issues with the batteries having wired them ‘incorrectly’ with the neg cable to the neg terminal.
Realistically what damage, if any, will I have caused?
Thanks

I agree with regards to connecting to ground if the battery is in the car. Presumably the eyelet cables they provide for easy regular connection of the comfort connector can't be used then. Not sure if the charger will let you only connect one of the eyelet cables to the + terminal and comfort connector and use the crocodile clip for the ground.Gary

Yes they can. I have the +ve bolted to the +ve bar coming from the battery and the -ve on the spare body shell stud behind the FBH.
