Took the following advice from my first boss - an old dog landscape gardener:
1. Show up on time
2. Be cheerfull
3. Do a bit more than you need to
Stood me in good stead, and if my kids follow these three points they'll be streets ahead of any students, graduates or trainees that we see coming through our doors.

1. Always have polished shoes
2. Take pride in your appearance and that will show pride in your work
3. Admit when you're wrong and accept others can be right
Came from a family of 9 (no, we're not pikeys!) relatively low income family, but father always held no debt (other than mortgage) rarely went on school trips due to lack of money, std school to A level (well almost, left to get a job after three months), no university, was first in the family to go abroad (when i was 16, to Australia 8) without the family) Pension since 17, bucked the family trend and went to work in shirt/tie in an office, learnt loads, put the hours in and made things happen!
Now, have family of three, kids go on all the school trips they can (didn't book the £900 for a weeks skiing for one of them though, that's just taking the pi$$) try to be there for them collectively and individually.......
Will they be more, or less, succesful? who knows........Bodsys Brake Bible

Came from a very poor background......grafted hard for years and never been afraid to get my hands dirty. Have changed careers several times and always started from the bottom and worked my way up.
Good at getting noticed by the right people in my various jobs..!!
Now starting to reap the rewards as I rapidly approach 50!!! Probably get run over by a bus.... 8)
