Which one oztent r5 or jet 30 tent |
|
Since the Peak District weekend i am now desperate to buy an oztent!
I knew this would happen, but the tent is the first item on my long list of must haves!
So dilema time
My needs are simple, a big quick tent, fast to put up and take down, that will go in the boot of the D3
It will be used for weekends by me and some kit, and then the kids when me and the mrs kip in the tin tent
I loved ENTs R5 tent but have seen a cheap oztent jet 30 (£350)
Im likely to buy the sides to make a bit of sitting space but i believe the sides are common to both models
Concerns at present are length of bag, condensation without a fly for the R5 (jet 30 comes with a fly in the bag)
General views of forum members of both models as one is external frame and other internal
Can you all give me a steer on which model i should go for and why ....................................................................................................
If my wife ever sells my stuff for what she thinks I paid for them, you lot are gonna get some bargains!

In my experience, don't buy a Jet tent unless you can swim. I spent a very wet fortnight in the Pyrenees last year, and both my F25 and my friends F30 had serious problems with water ingress every time it rained.
I'm not talking just a bit of damp, but deep enough to float a rubber duck halfway across the floor.
Shame, because it's a great tent in many ways.
My friends F30 has just been replaced under warranty, I never got around to complaining about mine (bought from a different source).

There is a second problem I just remembered... if you aren't very careful with how you pack it up, the lower 'kuckle' joints tend to wear small holes in the canvas. This also occurred on both tents.
As I say, it's a great shame, I really want to like the tent. It's big enough to stand up in, sets up really easily, and packs down small enough to fit sideways across the back of my Ibex (which is shorter than a Defender 90, so sideways is important!), . It easily stood up to high winds while camping on a beach in Scotland last spring, and seems generally robust and well made.
Trying to be positive about it, but in the end I never got wet in my £100 Kyham in 5 years of use.

Please be aware that there is a price rise in the pipeline. Prices will rise sooner rather then later.

been really pleased with my oztent - but the flysheet is essential if you want to avoid the condensation and water ingress in heavy rain and high winds. Duncan

Cheers Lee
How quick is the tipi to put up? Is it similar price to rv5?
The tipi looked great but i was just so impressed with your tent and the ease it went up even with a bit of snow to contend with ....................................................................................................

F30 jet tent just sold on ebayat 7.05pm from norwich leisure for £350 today (brand new stock).
I placed my bid with a higher price a few seconds too late due to laptop being slow and missed it.
Seem to be a few bargains at present, looks like retailers are getting rid of old stock and making good discounts
I have more or less decided on an RV5 after info received on the forum, and I like the spped that they go up. ....................................................................................................

I thought i had entered a bid of £400 with a minute to go but it didnt register on ebay even though it said I was the highest bidder on my screen!!!!
Looks like I have a software glich. I have emailed the seller to see if I can get one for the same winning ebay price, yet to receive a reply, but may be worth a go ....................................................................................................
