Whoosing noise when accelerating

Hi Every body,

I'm completely new to this site and what may come as a suprise to you is this is the first time I've had to visit a forum for advice having owned my Disco 3 TDV6 HSE for 4.5 years now! Yes I've had the the usual parking sensor, handbrake and rear door strut problems as most of you have by the sound of it but can't see any obvious links to this problem----

When accelerating (hot or cold) I'm getting a loud whoosing/ induction sounding noise coming from the drivers side air vent. I've checked the aircleaner box and hoses for any obvious leaks but nothing I can see that can be causing the problem.

Anybody had this before?

Rob.

LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Welcome Thumbs Up

is it definatly from the air intake or could it be the noise of the fan being heard through the air intake. if you use it offroad it could be the intercooler full of mud etc.

have you noticed any loss of power

I'm not sure, it just sounds like rushing air and only occurs during hard acceleration and is not evident during constant speed driving. I've never done any amount of off roading and the problem only started yesterday.

According to the wife she over took somebody tonight and the car came up with 'Engine Fault' and lost power, problem was cured when she stopped and turn the engine off and back on again. I can't force the same problem to occur again.

Possibly a split intercooler hose.

Did she touch brake and accelerator at the same time? This would cause the problem. Steve

Does it seem to smoke more, black soot from exhaust?

This is a sign of more air getting into the system, supporting Garaths answer. The top big hose is the one that splits, or the jubilee clips fail.
