Not especially, but the larder is full. But it usually is anyway.
Mostly convenience.
As seen in Italy this week panic buying can empty the supermarkets very quickly. Panic buying is the most likely problem rather than millions dropping dead on the streets.
In truth, I bought a couple of P3 filter half masks and a couple of boxes of heavy latex gloves a couple of weeks ago. Judging by how difficult to buy some items have become I am evidently not the only one to do so.
If Coronavirus doesn't arrive then they'll come in handy next time I need to rob the local post office.
For me the interesting point is that many of our high profile customers at work are taking Coronavirus very very seriously.
I'm not at liberty to reveal who but some of them are very high profile indeed and some are very concerned
Lots of people in very high places are paying Coronavirus an awful lot of attention. Moe than the Chinese official figures suggest is warranted.
Incidentally, we supply a lot of education establishments. Today we were notified of three large schools that shut down today as a precaution
If they are shutting them down as a precaution then I consider it only prudent to spend modest amount on PPE

Exactly what you are seeing in Northern Italy right now.
That's the point I was trying to make, it is that hysteria that is likely to see shortages in the supermarkets
The puzzling bit about Coronavirus is massive governmental reaction around the globe.
Its not particularly proportional to the threat

I think Govts are reacting because of the possible economic impact rather than the high fatality potential. It appears it's reasonably contagious and knocks people out enough to put them off work for a while. Get enough people ill with it at once and the economy suffers.
Either that or there's an asteroid on the way and they're trying to distract everyone. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Is it not government over reaction causing the economic repercussions though?
China must be looking at pretty crippling economic consequences by now.
Consequent component shortages around the world are already having massive knock on effects on worldwide manufacturing.
Global oil consumption has already dropped significantly, as has coal usage in China with some estimates saying that Chinese energy consumption has been reduced by up to 80%
It all suggests that the economic damage is far greater than the threat to life already.

The mortality isn't that high in the big scheme of things (there are no official figures its too early) it seems to be less than 2%, far lower than Mers or Sars, it may end up being no worse than Flu in those terms. The real issue is the sheer numbers that could need hospital treatment if we get a major outbreak, as early evidence suggests it could be much higher than anything we have seen before.==================================

Totally looking forward to walking in to the field next door and shooting a cow in the face. You can keep your rabbits and freeze-dried toilet paper, it's steak all the way for me baby.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

We usually have a pretty well stocked “food room” anyway. 3 freezers, one with all the dogs frozen raw food and the other 2 with meat joints, ready prepped meals, stews etc.
The one thing we did stock up on was pot noodles.. coz they were on offer in Tesco and it’s easy to make when I feel ill (which is often)
Also we get a lot of power cuts so we need stuff that can be made without the use of the oven or microwave.
I have filled the heating oil tank and ordered some more firewood though.
