Winch air Free Spool plumbed into the air suspenspension??
Hi guys, I have a Goodwinch TDS 9.5i with a Bow2 motor that came off my D1, I'm going to be fitting it to my D3 with an Uncle Ray (RLD) front winch mount. Now the winch has an air free spool, but the original pump and solenoid are goosed. Is there a way I could plumb a solenoid to run the free spool off the air suspension reservoir.

Im sure you can, but be aware the tank pressure is quite high, over 150psi iIRC?

Tank pressure can be regulated with appropriate kit, but be aware that the compressor will then be working harder/longer. They are ok for the suspension requirements that they were fitted for.2011 MY D4 HSE

Cheers guys, was a hope more than anything, I'll have to get a small compressor and a small air tank, run off a solenoid. Maybe get an ARB so I can pump tyres etc, but they area bit ott for what I need now, compared to my old D1 on 35's.

Hi
Would a T max tyre air compressor be any good ,
Bought one earlier this year and found it very good, but alas don’t know if it would be powerful enough for what u need
If u haven’t got an aux battery fitted I imagine that will be an ideal place to fit one

Thats the sort of thing I'll be looking at, tbh a tyre pressure of 40 psi would be enough to run the free spool so doesn't need to be massive. Unless I get an ARB style copy which has a reservoir built in, but then it a lot more faff than tapping a solenoid into the main suspension reservoir tank, as it wouldn't be used a great deal, or use a lot of air.

Hi
Also meant to add ref the amount of amps they pull, here’s some spec details on the t max
Tmax pulls 30 amps where ur arb only pulls 14 amps , so I have to connect my t max directly to the battery , which I assume ur do anyway via a fuse
Also thought , couldn’t u fit another air tank the other side of ur disco so it’s completely separate , also having a tap there to connect a tyre hose for ur tyres
Max Air Flow: 72 litres p/minute, 50LPM @ 30PSI
Max Voltage: 13.8volt
Max Amp Draw: 30A
Max Working Pressure: 150 PSI
Max Restart Pressure: 200 PSI
Max Ambient Temperature: 60C
Min Ambient Temperature: -40C
Max Duty Cycle Time: 40 mins @ 30 PSI @ 22C

Interesting, I was considering doing similar but using an old disposable welding bottle, as they are over rated for my needs (Argon 200l bottle is 100BAR so 1450psi!!!), and vary in size and shape. The issue I'd have to overcome is turning it off at a certain pressure (but no insurmountable) with a non return valve after the pump, as the reservoir would have enough capacity for the free spool, but not be too large, also for inflating tyres it would be ideal.
If done small enough, could fit into the compartment by the brake master cylinder.

Hi
Sounds a good idea ref the welding tank , wondering if there are bolt threads on the drivers side so for example if u was going to fit an air suspension air tank that side
Would a pressure reducing valve be any good so u know it won’t go over a certain level, then having a pressure sensor to turn the compressor off electrically
Also need a pressure relief valve as well I imagine for safety purposes for the tank
But Ideal if it can indeed all fit inside the aux battery compartment , wonder if u can fit a small 12 volt battery in there and linked to a VSR relay just for the compressor so doesn’t take any voltage away from the main battery if the engine is off
Have a few links ref air line fittings etc if there any good to u, please let me know and will find them for u

Yeah those links would be handy.
For how often it would be used then running off the standard battery would be fine tbh, and once finished I could drain the tank by activating the air feed to the free spool. I was thinking a 90psi on and 120psi off switch, so matched with a 200 psi+ pump with a fixed braided air hose instead of the flexy air pump one, then on the bottle the pressure switch, solenoid air valve to free spool, and then another to a compressor airline fitting, could carry a cheapy Lidls retractable airline in the boot with a tyre inflator. The pump would be more than capable of pumping the tyres with the engine running. I could wire it up to the winch cut off, so its only on when the winch is activated. And without looking I'm sure that there will be fixings in the body for a spare battery, so shouldn't be too difficult to make up a mounting bracket.

Hiya
Here’s the links that I hope will be of use to u
Plus would u be so kind to take some piccies when u do the install plse , many thks as I might permanently install my T max into the D3, but have a split charge system so will have to find a place , wondering about the left hand side boot locker
I’ve also got an old reservoir valve block off the D3 as I’m going to see if it’s possible to wire it up via another tank the drivers side , has the built in pressure sensor etc, so just seeing if I can get it to work
Not 100% if there are indeed any bolt holes on the drivers side like there are on the passenger side
Maybe someone with a LHD would be so kind to verify if the tank is on the drivers side ??
So would be awesome if that’s ok to see ur install plse
