I have dealt with him a couple of times. I know Jim very well. I'm now assuming you are him???

Well not quite and at the risk of going off topic a bit JJ is my son, he works at Gigglepin for Jim & he used to do the winch challenges with Bob Seamam.
Small world!

I cut my challenge teeth so to speak at the JBS events, however long ago that was.

I take your point Mark ...but my own view is that few will have as much experience of winching a D3, sometimes fully laden, in all manner of extreme circumstances, which as I'm sure you will recognise might be somewhat different to comp work. You obviously have experience in your field and he in his. Would it not be a little more productive to ask 'why and how' rather than try to just give an impression that he doesn't know what he is talking about and casting doubt on his experience?

Yes, I remember Julian & Victoria from their Shire days. I was Chairman of HBRO then, didn't they go to OZ?
Happy days.

No aspersions(sp) being cast on my part.
I just queried the fact that Andrew said that 9000lb winches melt plasma. Which isn't a complete truth?

As for dissing his teaching ability or knowledge I commented on my experience of LRE instrs not him per say. I understand that there will be some better than others. But until I meet 1 then that is what I think. I would love to meet Andrew and discuss the ways of the winching world with him. We both have vast winching/recovery knowledge. We could both teach each other a thing or 2 I'm sure.

hmmm, searcheds for BBORC and got everything from Barton Broad Open Regatta Committee to Bonita Bay Outdoor Recreation Complex, but nothing about winches or winching, even added David Bowyers name but got nothing. Can we narrow it down a bit?

Found the Super Winches website, that doesn't look to bad at all, from a novice's point of view. Also found a size guide on one website and that agreed that you should have at least 1 and a half times gross weight, so 9000 lbs would seem an absolute minimum as has been said before on here.
