After reading all the horror stories about Autoglass and trying to get the right glass fitted, I was not looking forward to organising my cracked windscreen replacement today.
True to form they refused to accept they could fit the Pilkington Optikool glass and I had to have whatever was on the shelf. It was like pulling hens teeth before she had a word with her manager and they agreed to fit the right glass.
I still am not convinced the fitter will turn up on Friday with the right glass, I have told them he will be sent on his way if he has some Chinese copy windscreen in his van and I will bill them for my wasted day off work!!
Trying to be positive and keeping my fingers crossed!! ------------------------------

Last year they changed the D3's screen, they agreed it was to be Optikool. When they turned up it wasn't so got sent away. Then phoned them and said "Oi!" and they checked with NFU and couple of weeks later a nice LR badged Optikool screen was fitted with new clips and A pillar trims.
Unfortunately it only had 6 months life before car died.
I went through the same and was contacted by my insurance company to prove I had opticool due to the cars age so they wanted a picture of the logo on the screen sent that off and they gave the go ahead for the opticool screen, I wish I had watched them as they never fitted the new clips to the A pillars and the screen is slightly off to one side but only I noticed that, my advice get the insurance company to give the go ahead and if they don’t have new A trim clips on the van send then on there way and watch everything they do. Is the replacement screen heated? I’ve a couple of small stone chips on my windscreen and it’s knackered the heating element so would like it replacing but want the real deal not some cheap replacement.

As expected Autoglass have just rung and cancelled Fridays appointment as they say Pilkington glass is a special order item and needs approval from the insurance company first!
I have already spoken to Churchill and they have stated it is their policy to only fit OEM screens although it will not have the Land Rover logo on it They are contacting Autoglass direct to sort it out.....
As I type Churchill have rung back and said they have told Autoglass to fit the Pilkington Windscreen...lets see what happens now ------------------------------

Strange, I had mine done by Autoglass in Peterborough 2 weeks ago. No issues with Pilkington and even a comment that their main supplier was Pilkington. They did a good job too.Discovery 4 XXV

Had another phone call from Autoglass and they have confirmed that they will now fit a Pilkington screen after a call from Churchill Insurance and it is on order. They will contact me next week to arrange an appointment to fit.....fingers crossed... ------------------------------

Being devils advocate, has anyone had any issues with a non pilkington screen??
My first replacement screen was a pilkington screen fitted by autoglass at my request without any problems.
After about 18 months it started to leak at the top corner. Under warranty they removed the screen and it was apparent that the leak was caused by rust under the screen, i took the car to a paint shop to have it fixed properly and autoglas then fitted a new but not pilkington screen and it has been fine since.
The windscreen looks fine to me, the heating elements work fine, and I suppose the only test it hasn't had is the "flying turkey" one. One I admit i would want it to pass.
Also had non original screen fitted to my trusty focus a long time ago, if anything the heating elements have lasted longer than the original ford item.

I had to have a new windscreen fitted to our Mini last week. It's a Pilkington one. Talking to the fitter, he said that they only fit OEM (Pilkington stuff these days) as they'd had too much trouble one way or another with anything else. I mentioned about the Discovery, and he said that JLR were one of the ones that had forced them to use Pilkington glass because LR particularly were saying that if they fitted anything other than genuine, they would not honour any warranties for electrical failures. Although they do not have the LR logo, they accept Pilkington as an acceptable replacement.
At one time Autoglass manufactured their own windscreens (I visited the plant in Chesterfield), but they've stopped that now and don't stock windscreens as such, so it does tend to be OEM - apparently.
Don't shoot the messenger!

Well my screen arrived today and its a Landrover stamped screen so i'm impressed.
Although 2 chaps turned up as they said it takes 2 to fit the screen, strange that as when they turned up with the FY screen it was only 1 chap 05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey
