Windscreen wiper blades are parking in the vertical position
Hello, my wipers are parking in the vertical position. I think I might have inadvertently initiated a service command when I was cleaning the wiper stalks. But cannot determine how to reset. Any intel appreciated

I've never heard of a service position for the wipers
Think perhaps the wiper motor has had an internal failure.Richard

The wiper motors seem to work fine. The wipers just park in the wrong position. I’ve replaced a micro-relay although it seemed to be operating fine. Yep I’m driving fast over every hump in the road - with ‘rollercoaster’ arms lol

Some Land Rover models definitely have a service position/routine for the blades

Did I dream a winter park position an inch up from the normal ?
Maybe so blades could be released?
Try holding the stalk down, while turning ignition off.

if they are moving correctly during operation, then DON'T do that !
I, too, believe there is a service mode ... but no idea where I got that from.

I've never bothered with service positions - there is definitely one on later models, not sure about Disco 3's though. Try this:-
Ignition on, wiper position at 'off'
Turn off ignition then push & hold wiper stalk down for a couple of seconds.
If that doesn't work, try a battery disconnect after the key has been out of the ignition for >6 mins.

For the Freelander 2, “set the wipers winter park position by holding the wiper switch down while turning the engine off, moves the wipers in a vertical position on the windshield.”
So look at doing the same to reverse it ……worth a try.
Also
How to set “winter wiper park”, but this appears to be on newer LR models.
But there may be a pointer in there somewhere.

Not a good idea mate - that will force the wipers to try and go down the scuttle and into the engine bay...

extract from Topix MY17 user guide - changing a wiper blade - who knew?
Before changing a wiper blade, the wiper arms must be set in the service position as follows:
Make sure the ignition is switched off.
Switch the ignition on and then off again.
Immediately press the wash/wipe control to its lowest position, as if to command a single wipe. Hold this position while switching on the ignition again. The wipers move to the service position. See WIPER OPERATION.
When the new parts have been fitted, switch the ignition off. The wipers return to the park position.
If yours are "confused", try setting service mode again then cycle ignition ?
