Windscreen wiper motors broke, noise but moving when on.
Hi all and happy new year.
I stupidly by accident switched on the windscreen wipers when there was half a ton of snow and ice on the windscreen, obviously they didn't move. Now its cleared when I switch them on I hear a noise and whirring but they don't move. Expensive fix?
Thanks

You've probably stripped the teeth off the wiper arm, or if you're really unlucky you've stripped the teeth on the motor extension thingy onto which the wiper arms fit. Remove the arm and take a look. The arms are hugely expensive to replace (I think I paid about $50 for a new one a couple of years ago). Hopefully that's the fix.PAGODA

Don't know if they're applicable to Discos but Fiats have a repair kit if the joints have simply worn enough to pop apart. Even Halfrauds sell them.

How can I check please?
Remove the wiper arms and plastic scuttle you will then be able to see the wiper motor and linkage.
If a joint has popped off it will be obvious. If not just pick up a complete unit and replace it.
You may need a small puller to get the wiper arms off, they are usually quite tight

The nut at the bottom of the arm probably needs tightening. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It’s getting dark outside so sorry for the poor photos
Take a look at the bottom of the wiper arm, you’ll see a plastic cap covering the bolt that holds it on
Pop it off (there’s an indentation on the side for a flat screwdriver) That should let you see the bolt holding it onto the motor arm
Start the wiper up and see if the bolt (but not nut) is moving, if so, tighten nut, if not you’ll have to take the arm off and start working back to the point it’s working
It’s worth completing your profile on here also, as I’m guessing your having problems on a D3?2008 HSE Stornoway Grey
