Rightly or wrongly I've got a feeling we might have a hard one this year. With that in mind I thought it would be a good idea to start collecting together some recovery gear to keep in the boot.

What would people recommend:

Rope or straps or both? lengths/weight limits?
Shackles - Bow/D/soft shackles how many and what weights?
Waffle boards?

Blimey people! you dont know what cold and snow is!!! haha! I'm half British and half Swedish! in my 40 years in London I think the coldest we ever got was minus 1 and a few flakes coming down. I have a Horse-farm here in Sweden and right now we have minus 14 and just about 7 inches of snow. Beautiful but cold!...here no matter what LR, Def or RR youve got they are all experiencing starting problems, especially in the mornings! coughing like mad!...anyway yep thats about it!and proper winter tires with dubbs and well...yes, half a bottle of Scotch or a fine Brandy!!

The difference of course being that in Sweden it's a regular event so all the infrastructure is in place and people are prepared for it rather than a once in ten years event that brings the country to a complete halt.

Pretty regular occurrence in the North East of Scotland, we’ve managed -13 and around 6 inches of snow in the last two weeks with more to come. I keep a heavy duty tow rope, shackles, jump leads and a shovel in the car from October onwards... and most importantly fit winter tyres!

I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I know Scotland and especially the Highlands can be very cold, beautiful! but snowy and cold. I got stuck there with a RR, all season tires and there was no way of driving I had to wait until the following day crawling at 15 miles per hour!
