Take care ! From 1st November, ONLY 3PMSF tyres are accepted in the locations shown on the map ! Simple "M+S" are no longer suffisant, except if you have snow socks or chains onboard.

Isn't that from 1 November 2024?

Quote:
Winter tyres, within the meaning of the decree, are tires covered by the “3PMSF” designation (3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake), identifiable by the presence of the “Alpine symbol” marking and one of the “M+S” markings. ”, “M.S” or “M&S”.

Until November 1, 2024, snow tires only marked "M+S" will be tolerated.

All-season tires (4S, All Weather, All Season) have no regulatory definition: to be considered winter tyres, they must be stamped "3PMSF", or at least "M+S" for the period transitory for the first 3 years of application of the new regulations.

Vehicles with studded tires are exempt from equipment obligations.

I'm currently driving a Fiesta ST with Michelin Pilot Sport 4's, the lack of grip in sub zero conditions did get me thinking that my old D2 with which had some aggressive AT tyres would probably grip better than this does. We don't have long enough cold spells to make people see the value in fitting winter rubber but on this evidence there is a lot to be said for it.

There is an increasing number of true all-season tyres coming through now - sometimes called "winter-rated summer tyres". These work near enough as well as a summer tyre in the summer and nearly as well as a winter tyre in winter. No need to swap tyres anymore for most people.

Sure, in extremis the dedicated tyre will be better, but for most people's daily use - trips to the supermarket, work or the school run - a decent all-season tyre will be an excellent choice.

The issue, as ever, is that far too many people insist on putting cheap tyres on their cars. Never understood it, as the tyre is the only thing that gets you around that fast-approaching corner, or stops you from hitting that now-stationary car ahead.

And for those SUVs that never venture off tarmac, they do an SUV version too. Which neatly avoids the issue raised in the OP, of course. Thumbs Up
