Women's Tennis at Wimbledon - Talent v looks?

It seems that there is a storm brewing over this story, and knowing what a top bunch of un-PC people we are Whistle I thought a forum poll might be in order Wink

story from here

Quote:
Wimbledon tennis organisers have been accused of using looks rather than ranking to decide which women play on Centre Court.

Maria Kirilenko, who has modelled for Sports Illustrated, played on Centre Court
In the first week of the Championships, fans missed out on watching several top seeded players on the exclusive Centre Court.
On Wednesday, the number two seed Serena Williams played her second round game on Court One, while fourth seed Elena Dementieva appeared on Court Two.
Centre Court was allocated to the 24th seed Maria Sharapova and the unseeded Gisela Dulko in what was widely regarded as a 'battle of the babes'.
The Times Tennis Correspondent, Neil Harman, said some eyebrows were raised last Thursday, when the ninth seed played on Centre Court, leaving the top seed Dinara Safina on Court Two.

Box office: Sharapova
"There was a little bit of surprise in putting the Wozniacki-Kirilenko match on Centre Court - two beautiful blonde girls.
"You could argue there it was more box office, than whether they were deserving of a place on Centre Court," he said.
On Friday, Serena Williams played on Court Two, while Centre Court saw action from the attractive, but lower ranked eighth seed Victoria Azarenka and 28th seeded Sorana Cirstea.
Some are now questioning the way Wimbledon allocates its most prestigious court - and asking whether it is based on looks.
Olympic Gold Medallist, and sports campaigner Tessa Sanderson CBE, described the situation as "laughable".
"I can't believe they're doing this," she added, "You can't judge people by the way they look.

Relegated to Court 2: Safina
"Women have been getting a lot better at raising their profile in sport. This is the most pathetic thing I've heard."
Bosses at Wimbledon have denied the allegations.
All England Club spokesman Johnny Perkins said: "We don't look at a player and say she is attractive or he is attractive, therefore they play on the big court.
"But if a player is deemed to be popular, for whatever reason, they are more likely to be on one of the bigger courts."
He said this was to "provide value for money" for ticket holders and for the sake of crowd management.
Mr Perkins said the order of play was based on a complex mixture of factors including ranking, and added: "At the end of the day box office appeal has to be taken into consideration."
Neil Harman admitted it was hard to allocate courts without upsetting some players.
"Do you play the best tennis matches or the best looking players?" he asked.
"I'm sure they sit down and think: 'Are we going to get a good TV audience?'
"But I think as the second week unfolds we'll get the best matches on the best courts.
In week one you're always liable to come up with a match where you think, how did that one sneak onto Centre Court?"

The worry for me is that if they Grunted in bed like they do playing Tennis, the neighbours would complain and get an ASBO against me….. 8)

It might put me off my stroke as well, a small whimper at the right time is fine, but grunting at 101 decibels!!! Shocked

Yep can't stand those Grunters even if they are good lookers.
Serena is always good for a laugh ( Remember the Catsuit worn at the US Open?)

BTW both my teenage kids ( Girl & Boy) play Beach Volleyball for our State, I have to admit it is a tough sport to have to spectate. Whistle
My son also plays Indoor for the State as well, pity he broke his Collarbone playing Rugby Union a week ago. Sad

not sure what a 'minger' / 'fat bird' slang means (assuming a fat bird is a hot chic) - but I'd rather see a nice piece of ass on the court - moaning & sweating - than a fugly girl...
in fact I'm still upset my baby, Martina Hingis, retired
