actually, not so illegal, due to a quirk in EU law that cannot prevent the use of technical information to allow non OEM (LR/ford/bmw etc) dealers to provide service on cars.
I can't remember the article number, but none of the brands will take people to court for this as it's just not worth the publicity and the liklihood of them losing at EU level. Bodsys Brake Bible

no, because the info their (like the info on a link on here) is out of date and the torque settings for some critical elements will be incorrect. over 100nm variance for some........ Bodsys Brake Bible

I think Ian you are talking about changes to the manufacturers block exemption which came into force in 2010 and manufacturers had 3 years to comply with. what it actually means is that bone fide independents can request technical information from the manufacturer in order to carry out servicing to the manufacturers specifications provided that they meet the manufacturers criteria ....it doesn't exactly state that you can rob copyrighted material from the manufacturers and sell it to any old chap on eBay
