Worried about break in and theft
Hi All, I'm considering getting a Discovery 5 however I'm worried about break in's and theft of keys to get it. I've seen it's in the top 10 for most stolen vehicles and with kids and pets in the home I have to be honest it does concern me.
We have the best locks for the doors recently fitted and a CCTV and Ring set up but you hear about thieves barging into homes to get keys etc.

If you get a 2018MY> then they can't use the signal to steal it in the same way you will have seen on other older LR's and other cars with similar keyless systems.

You can easily overthink this. The scrotes can overcome almost all security you apply ... just make it obvious so they move on to another one that looks easier ... disklok is a good example..

Look into getting an Autowatch Ghost.. Or a switch that disables some function of the engine.
No one will be stealing it then. Apart from a full lift or extreme violence to you but that's very rare.
The layered approach to security as well.

And see if keyless entry can be switched off. OK, it means going old school and using the button on the fob but that’s hardly a hardship.

Yet. I remember the heady days when we were being assured that piggyback theft wasn’t possible a few years ago. We were told it was all effectively fake news, way before Trump was warning of it. It’ll only be a matter of time until the tech that LR puts in is circumvented, if it hasn’t already been so circumvented.

just a mechanical locking device such as disklok (previously mentioned) or a pedal lock.
I bought a steering wheel bar from Hellfrauds for £20 that clamps onto the wheel and the bar sits on top of the dash.
Nothing is impregnable to the determined car thief (I once had a steering wheel snapped off by thieves trying to break the steering column lock) but by putting a visible, mechanical barrier as an extra step in the way of the scrotes will make the chancers walk on by as its too much time and hassle to nick the car.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

I remember when Vauxhall boasted about their 'dead lock' system making car theft a thing of the past.
Then Cavalier SRi's became one of the most stolen cars.
Then Ford announced their new 'Chub' locks, I could get into most Fords within 30 seconds (as a breakdown patrol I hasten to add)1994 Defender 300tdi 110 commercial

Trying to work out how/whether UWB works for getting into the vehicle then? This seems to suggest UWB is only used for starting the engine. If that’s the case , then access into the vehicle is still an issue, and once thieves get in, presumably having the key inside the vehicle is not an issue to start the car if they are determined.Gary
