Thats a good idea
perhaps then we could see what and how the "Flap" works and posibly find a fix.
It seems like an expensive item to keep replacing every 3-4 years!

There was a post a while back from someone who had baked the unit in the oven with a hair-dryer to soften the seal so they could bling 'em up by replacing the orange part with clear...still searching for it,....find it in a minute...
Ahhhaaaa!!!
Thanks VeryDisco

Thank you all for your help and advice...this is getting good now and that link is awsome.
When I get the one replaced under warranty I think I will try the hair dryer method on the other and see what happens!!
I will try to document it and post it up if I find anything new or a fix.
Thanks again and please keep the ideas and info coming it is very much appreciated

Took the D3 in Today for the brake Vacuum pipe mod and new master cylinder. While it was there I asked the LR dealer to check the problem with the lights. As You can Guess the lights worked perfectly, dipping and dimming whilst in the workshop!!
I am now £60 out of pocket and not really any further into finding out what is wrong.
I have viewed the wiring diagram with the Electrician which showed each light unit has its own ECu and then into a main contol unit which is electronic apparantly. There is only one feed to the motors which work the flaps which , as we thought, would mean this is used to raise the flap for main beam and Gravity to bring it back down.
The electrician suggested that there may be a fault on this wire but really he doesnt know and has never come across this problem before!!
He suggested before spending any more cash trying to track down the fault that I try the lights in manual switch mode rather than auto and if they do stick on that i check to see if the Halogen lights are going out and just leaving the xenon lights on.

If you have video on your phone, I'd be tempted to get it videod doing it, hen take that as evidence. Otherwise you'll have this issue for a long time and could potentially be a danger to oncoming traffic. Bodsys Brake Bible

Bodsy that's a great idea for all sorts of issues!
I had this on our 08 model but fortunately had no hassle getting the light replaced - it was due a service anyway and I used Yeovil. Nick made sure the spare headlamp (and a spare wheel hoist) were in stock ready to be fitted
It does worry me that this will happen again after the end of the warranty and even with Slimer's price these are pricey headlamps. If someone could take a faulty one apart and find out what's sticking, maybe a dab of silicon grease in the right place would sort it (and not catch fire when the bulb gets hot)!

Thanks Wiggs thats a big help.
By looking at the info there appears to be a solenoid which works the two flaps which might be the problem.
Thanks again
