Which xenon bulb please ?

I've just converted my D3 to D4 front end. My D3 had xenon light option so I bought a couple of used D4 lights to use in the conversion, unfortunately these have arrived without bulbs .. Would anyone be good enough to tell me which bulbs I need to buy please, I believe they're different to the D3 ones.

For xenon:

D3, D2S
D4, D3S

Otherwise the list Gary posted looks good.

Thumbs Up

Yes!- they just plug in like a xenon and you get twice the light for half the cost , don't know about adaptive.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Which LED bulb would you go for for the D3?

The required bulb is embossed on the clear plastic lens. You can see it when you open the bonnet.

It's worth pointing out, for completeness, that the aftermarket LED replacements for the xenon bulbs aren't usually road legal. Whether that's a concern / will ever be caught is for the reader to decide.

Like a xenon or like a halogen?.
My understanding is that Xenons, like the D2S and D3S, are driven by ballast boxes which can produce thousands of volts. The bulb connectors are different from those used for halogen bulbs like the H7 type.
Led replacement bulbs are often described using the word Xenon but that refers to the colour of the light output.

The LED xenon replacements have a bloody big load resistor in them, it would seem, as they have a lot of cooling provision - some just a lot of fins, others have active fans. That seems to be necessary as they just use the standard wiring and are connected to the standard ballast.

Thanks. My understanding is improved. The led lamps that I have seen previously have had halogen bulb type bases and used terms like "Xenon light"

I’m got a pair of these to fit to my 7 year old FFRR, when I eventually get around to it:

Search around as prices did vary considerably when I bought them. Thumbs Up

I, too, like the Osram Nightbreakers.

I have them on the D3 and now during the weekend replaced 11 year old original xenons (Philips long life) on the Volvo V70 with Nightbreakers (D1S) along with new lens glass (plastic). Looks like new again and the lenses don’t break up the light anymore.
