Xenon headlamps for France

Hello everybody,

I have been reading here all over and can not find an answer so hope you can help.

I moved to France with my 2015 D4 with non adaptive Xenon headlamps. These apparently are fine for UK and Europe as they have a flat beam pattern so do not have the adjusting lever inside. Our model is the SE so it does not have the computer menu to adjust to RH drive either.

I went to get my CT today(French MOT) and Mr garage man explained that the headlamps were not aligned correctly and it could not pass. He suggested I go to Land Rover for them to correct the lamps.

Being not a rich man I wish to do this myself and each lamp has a Up Down and Left Right adjuster so brilliant.

Can any one advise what height I need to set the centre of the beam to a wall at ( or do I just drive right up to the wall and mark the beam centres there?) and then what distance to reverse to to get the correct height of beam? I presume I would back up 10 metres to get a drop of beam of 12cm for the 1.2%?

I am happy with UK measurements as I can just swap them round for driving on the wrong side of the road here.

I appreciate any help that can be offered. Regards. Carl.

I thought the whole idea of the flat beam pattern meant it was the same lamps for RHD and LHD and therefore nothing to "adjust" or align

These are fine for UK & Europe, there is no means of adjusting them for driving on the left or right.

This is from the 2015 Discovery 4 Owner's Handbook - (Issue1)

I know others have had similar problems with EU garages which are not familiar with this type of headlight, and have had to educate the tester !

Hope this helps.

Let us know how you get on.

cheers guys, yes that is the whole idea...until your lamps are not correct! so I want to set them up. One is higher than the other so they have been adjusted at some point and the adjusters are there and they work. I was hoping to find the baseline settings that must be used at some point.

NJSS that is for Halogen lamps, mine are Xenon so I do not have that adjuster. My vehicle does not have high beam assist either.

Ahh - soory, you are not trying to set them up for LHD (which with Xenons you dont need to do), but just to set the alignment height correctly Thumbs Up

Maybe one of the more techie guys can answer that

I was told mine were flat beam so OK to use in france, but i constantly got flashed.

Turns out that while they can be flat beam, there is an adjuster inside the lamp that moves it between "UK" beam pattern (kink upwards to the left hand side) and that was set for UK.

Few mins later and I do now have a flat beam and no more flashed from our French cousins.

And so did I Al.

But no.

My headlights are 2015+ non adaptive Xenons, and there is indeed a lever attached to the Xenon bulb unit that moves it between the flat and normal beams.

I know, I have skinned knuckles from adjusting it!!!

Phillip, cheers.

But, I just had the unit out on the dining room table. The lever in there does nothing for the light, it releases the clamp that holds the bulb in place and that is all. there is absolutely nothing to change the orientation of the bulb. I will get it back out and take a piccie.

The black lever when down crimps the connectors tight and nothing more. When up the bulb housing is loose and when down tight.
The two photos with the bulb out show lever up and down and how that affects the grip of the connectors. Awkward to see but the silver tabs at the 10, 2 and 6 oclock position shifts in on the lower photo to grip the bulb locking it in place.

Not this is it

The headlamps have a beam pattern that eliminates the need to mechanically adjust the lamps or add any external stick-on decals.

To configure the Auto high beam system for the side of the road on which you are driving, proceed as follows:

Using the menu control on the steering wheel, select Vehicle Set-Up via the Message centre.

Select Auto High Beam setting.

Select Drive on Left or Drive on Right, for the side of the road that you are driving.

Thank you philm but I do not get that option in my vehicle set up. The only option I get in relation to headlamps is to adjust the auto delay.
I also do not have auto high beam.

My options do not include high beam setting.

I get......Speed Warning
Alarm sensors
Drive away locking
2 Stage unlocking
Headlamp delay

The lower pictures just tells how long i can set the delay for.
