hi all

i know this has been written about before but i would like to know the offical line

i am in the process of buying a new discovery and i am trying to get the stealers to
throw in a set of xenons
they are saying that it is a special order from the factory for xenons and that it is
not just a five minute job to fit them(as i understood from discussions on this site)

is there anybody out there working for a dealers who can confirm this so i can psuh
back on the stealer here in dublin

BTW i have been without a disco for 2 months now and i am getting withdrawel sysmtions

Funny you mention this, I was going to buy a set and fit them myself.

Upon calling the dealers and asking some questions (vehicle is an 2008),
i was told NO, you cannot fit these lights, as you don't have the ECU required to operate them.

So i thought stuff it, i'll call LR direct...............same story from them.

Now, from what i have been able to gather from on here, it can be done, it is just a straight swop over.

Finally, the dealer & LR both were adamant, that if i fitted these, they would noy cover ANY warrany claims
to damage done to the wiring of the vehicle, at the point of connection to the headlamps.

So it looks like a long wait till the warranty runs out, or see Nick, aka The Large One on here, get them from him, fit them yourself and if a warranty claim arrises, or it's due its annual service, swop the lamps back over to the original one's.

Well so it was suggested to myself.

HTH.

See the 5th post down by Black Betty, it explains it.

The Discovery 3 has 3 types of headlamp unit.
1. Halogen
2. Bi-Xenon
3. Bi- Xenon 'Adaptive' (The xenon unit self levels and it has cornering lamps located next to the side lamp bulb which illuminate when you steer).

Just swap your standard halogen headlamp units (the whole assembly) for the standard non-adaptive type headlamp unit. (You can't use the 'adaptives').

It is a straight swap. 'Plug 'n' Play you could say.

I swapped mine when the car was only 10 days old without any problem whatsoever.

Yip, it's only a 5min job.

Quite a few on here have done it, including me. Slimer has a deal or had a deal on non adaptive unit Thumbs Up

The only issue I had was when I called out LRA due to my egr issue and when the diagnostic was plugged in, and error code was shown as the ecu was not told that xenons were fitted. A stroke of the keypad and it knew that xenons were now fitted. No adverse issues whatsoever... Thumbs Up

Get it done. The difference is 'night and day' Mr. Green

That's odd. Confused I have had no mention of this.
Perhaps my man didn't notice it and just re-set the error.

...or perhaps he just re-coded it & didn't mention it to me.

Who knows.

Who cares? Wink
