Yes I did it, it was me. Mad

Has anyone got any tips on removing an transmission drain plug (plastic type) that's been over tightened so as the allen key just spins in the socket now?

Try using a torx bit that's bigger than the Allen key you used ?

The trouble is the side walls of the socket (after over tightening) are designed to collapse so although the shape of the socket remains OK the side walls just give as you start to turn opening up the socket so whatever tool can slip. If I can wedge out the gap between the socket and the main body of the plug that should do it. But I think I will get a set of those anyway Rmacaul, bound to be needed along the way.

Seems like a poor design at first but if it means that you have to buy a whole new sump I suppose its a good design for someone. Just not me Rolling Eyes

Over tightening up date:

If you Drill a couple of holes in the drain plugs outer ring you can then quite easily use a watch spanner to release it or I guess a pair of long nose pliers might do the trick.

Jobs all done now nice new transmission fluid, something I plan to do again in 20,000 so as to stay well on top of it. The fluid that came out was not in good shape.
