ZF auto box issues

I am concerned about my gearbox. I am getting up to 100000 km and it is not good. I am just wondering what I am in for the next 100. Does the double flush fix most things? What is you experience? is it only a 2005 model issue?

Generally, they are quite reliable, other than the selector issues (but there are new, modified parts available)

I have only seen one changed, for a very harsh 2-3rd, and 3-4th gear change.

I have had the software upgrade and still get the juddering. (153,000km now)

Next step is the double flush.

As mentioned in other threads, LR and ZF say 'filled for life", BUT.... ZF state on their website that the ATF should be changed every 80-120,000km if used for towing or at high speeds.

Jamo,

When I traded mine in I believe they replaced the torque converter, I have since spoken to the new owner and I understand that the box is OK now.

I was told by the dealer that the converter should be good for at least 250K

Hello Richard,

I've already got a new filter/pan, so Il'l just get the oil and give it a go. The Torque converter is probably expensive.

I just had the brake vacuum system replaced and am still recovering from the cost.

I'm going to put mine on the market soon. I'll try a trade, but I don't think I'll get what it's worth as I intend leaving all the clobber on and selling it 'as is'.

I'll still try a trade though, just in case it's better than I thought.
 Have a nice day!

Jamo,
Check the oil for metal and contaminants. I think some of the transmissions have had contamination problems.

My issue is the transition between 2nd and 1st is 'harsh'. This is very apparent when you are in low range or you driving in the city. It is now getting worse. Land Rover has asked to remove the pan and look for water or metal filings. This is the bit that worries me. If there are metal filings, will I have to replace the transmission? It is now out of warranty but luckily I purchased the extended warranty... I haven’t had a chance to get back to my preferred dealer which is 600km away. I just Censored off that I didn't pick it was a problem when it was in warranty...
