ZF8 LR4

Hopefully someone could help me with this frustrating issue.

I am trying to get the transmission oil sump from Disco 4 with the 3.0 supercharged. Is there any trick to get it out before removing the exhaust? The oil sump is with the built in filter

Just missing 2 or so centimetres to get it out Big Cry

It’s too late now to continue with it Rolling Eyes

There is a Video on 'You Tube' by Powerfulukltd who do this on a D4. It maybe relevant in your quest.
They cut the pick-up pipe to remove the sump using a hacksaw blade and replace with updated parts to reassemble.....It may be worth a look in your case? Thumbs Up

Thanks. That does work for the 6hp. 6 speed. The 2013+ comes with the 8 speed. The long sticking pipe is already upgraded bij LR to a short one. Only the issue now with 8 speed the sump is bit bigger. I am afraid I need to remove the cross beam that holds the transfer case in the middle. But then... the exhaust pipe Evil or Very Mad

I even put a few beers in the fridge at and started with the transmission at 18:00. Removing the screws and draining took only half hour. From there, a few hours to find out how to get it out. Just like a unsolvable puzzle. Unfortunately don’t deserve cold beer now. Better go to sleep and dreaming to solve the puzzle. Smile

The workshop manual says that the transfer case support crossmember needs to be removed, no mention about the exhaust needing to be removed though.

On the six speed 6HP you need to cut the plastic pipe and install the metal version sump with separate filter.

I don't know (yet) for the 8HP

Not applicable with the 8-speed.

So can the filter be removed and swapped on the 8 speed box then without removing the cross member?

Might work out cheaper than a flush?

I definitely drank al the beer. It was so easy by doing it my own way.
The exhaust pipe the goes from right to left, one cut there and unscrew the other side. Remove exhaust with the o2 sensore a side. The rest is easy.
No shacking gear change. Drives like new. Was really needed.
