I did tease with the idea of a 20L but decided that having unused ATF still sealed would probably be better. I'm sure Geofff and Mike will be looking at the 20L tubs with calculator to hand.

I wouldn't rely on it for long life, but changed every other service, should be fine. Thumbs Up

I went for the 20l barrel in the end. Figured I'd be less likely to lose it! Lol.

Aaaarghhhh! Just looked a bit further into this, and it appears that this oil, although suitable for the ZF8 speed g/box, it appears to be not suitable for the Zf6hp26 g/box fitted to D3's. ZF LIFEGUARD 6 oil is the stuff, which is ZF s671 090 255. Damn, too late to cancel the order by the look of it. Any D4 8 speed owners wanting this oil, let me know, as it is no use to me. Laughing

Who said it was not suitable for the ZF 6HP?

Would be quite a shock to a number of oil blenders and presumably ZF too.

I saw it on the ZF oil specs under auto transmission oils for cars Robbie. TE-ML 11 page 4.

So ZF now say that Lifeguard 8 cannot be used in a 6HP anymore?

What about all the vehicles filled with this already? Some of the later 6HPs (eg Audi) cannot use Lifeguard 6 and were filled with Lifeguard 8 at manufacture.

I'd like to see a copy of this bulletin, if you have a link.

Shocked

So what's the verdict? Suitable for use in a ZF 6 speed box or not?

Can't provide a direct link I'm afraid Robbie, but if you look on zf.com under 'which oil do I need' and then auto transmission oils for cars, it directs you to TE-ML 11 page 4.

Found the document that DN mentioned and can find no prohibition on using Lifeguard 8 (and by inference, the equivalent) in a 6HP. Clearly you cannot go the other way and bung Lifeguard 6 into an 8-speed, or indeed the 6HPs in other vehicles that must also only use Lifeguard 8.

Phew.

So back to the beginning - I can see no reason to doubt that this ATF can be used in all 8, 6 and 5 speed ZF boxes as detailed by Mannol on their datasheets and the packaging.

Sorry to query this Robbie, but lifeguard 6 is clearly a different spec oil to lifeguard 8, I am struggling to find any 'official' information that specifically says that LG 8(or equivalent) can be used as an alternative to LG6 (or equivalent)......can you point me to this please? Thanks.

Lifeguard 8 exceeds the specifications of Lifeguard 6 and will completely supersede it when the production of Lifeguard 6 ceases. You can mix the types in a transmission that requires the lower specification, but not the higher.

Anyway, this ATF is not Lifeguard 8 it is Mannol AG60.

Well, I cannot find that official information anywhere Laughing .....So I have asked the supplier if they can confirm whether AG 60 will be ok, or suggested sending me Mannol AG 55 instead, which is the correct spec oil for my vehicle ( ZF no. S671 090 255, LR oil no. TYK500050)........whether the krauts can understand me though, is another thing. Laughing Thumbs Up
